Let's see why clean energy technologies are so much more energy secure than oil.
A single solar panel (450W) costs about €100, same as a tank of petrol.
How many EV kilometres can the solar panel power compared to the tank of diesel?
Take a guess while I work it out on the back of an envelope.
That’s what Orban gets for banning Kneecap.
Half a billion euro for 10c off each litre of petrol and diesel for drivers and all the rest on private business. No grants to make evs or hybrid cars affordable for people, no increase in grants for home insulation to save on heating oil, no reduction in the price of home heating oil.
I mean for me it comes down to this:
I trust the govt and the Gardaí to be self interested, including to know who their enemies are. If this was a working class mass movement with potential to significantly change the country for the better, it would have been baton-charged on day 1
i don’t want my appliances to be smart or connect to the internet. i want them to do one mechanical task for 100 years
Two johnnies out with the most protestors are normal people who don’t want to see disruption and the government have millions for ‘other things’ there is of course a flood of support for them saying this. I’d say we are underestimating the support for the fash in Ireland tbh. Growing like cancer
"Fuel protesters in Dublin ‘ambushed’ in late-night Garda operation, spokesman says" The spokesperson they interviewed is Christopher Duffy, rape apologist and racist among other unsavory things. Well done to the media giving that yoke airtime! #Ireland #SpéirGhorm
Politically, the word that will come to define these fuel protests is "opportunism".
Look at everything, from all sides, through the prism of that word, and it all makes a lot more sense.
It also highlights the glaring absence of any real, lasting, positive change emerging from this.

Seeing a lot of outrage about the pepper spraying in Cork and yeah, I think it's awful too. But did you miss the pepper spraying of Palestine supporters? The Mothers Against Genocide being reefed by the hair into Garda vans? The Debenhams workers ditto? Did you miss all that? Why is it only bad now?
Utterly insane that the fate of millions, even billions of living people is forever handcuffed to the whims of a handful of belligerent idiots with a God complex playing Jenga with humanity for personal gain during the blink of an eye that they're on this planet. The sheer pointlessness of it all.
@clairewillett honestly the best marketing scheme in history is men successfully getting away with calling women the "more emotional" gender for like, EONS, because they've successfully rebranded anger as Not An Emotion 6:00 PM • Aug 12, 2020
once again I must tap my own sign
Lots of people who haven't had word one to say about constant public displays of proscribed flags used to intimidate whole communities, even primary schools, for years on end are suddenly going to be frothing about one flag at a gig.
That being said, a massive thank you to anyone able to support artists by buying their work or hiring them - ye are literally keeping us going. The benefit of working as small artists is that we get to see and appreciate everyone who buys a print or supports the work. It's a lovely little community.
There won't be a cow milked for two weeks with all the celebration!
From your neighbour to the west, congratulations, fantastic result!
This is disturbing… a single ChatGPT query uses 10x more energy than using a search engine. One 100-word email drafted by ChatGPT-4 uses about a water bottle’s worth of H2O, and enough electricity to power 14 LED lightbulbs for an hour.
sort of maybe want to write about it at some point but also ohhhhh my god as a woman and a feminist I actually just really don't want to be so defined by my gender, it's so BORING and reductive, there's so much more to being alive than your gender identity, who cares, WHO CARES
My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?
Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
What Ireland needs is a housing tyrant, a ruthless builder of housing, prepared to sacrifice any number of ministers to build houses
I honestly think that people who want to get these should have to go through another driving test, they should be another separate category on the licence. The amount of these on the road with people unable to drive them is scary. I'm not a great driver by any stretch, but I stick to a Yaris.
Aiming to be more like these tariffs (fought over by wealthy, powerful men while inspiring widespread panic)
I'm looking forward to my library hold on this coming through.
Happy April Fool's Day to all my fellow fools, óinseachs, amadáns, and eejits, we are the confused daughters of the witches that wouldn't learn 🩷
In advance of #stpatricksday, here's a thread of essential articles about Irish stuff which you can present to international friends who wish to understand us better.
First up: a tale of two Taytos, by Róisín Lanigan.

A light green painted bedroom with white wardrobes in the background with a curtain covered window to the right. The book Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune is open and resting on knees covered in a flowery duvet with a cup of coffee held in front of it.
Top tier bank holiday Sunday. Duvet day with a book that's only interrupted by runs to the kitchen for coffee, with a crackling fire on the TV. #booksky #spéirghorm #irishbluesky
...I'm going to petition my book club to change our WhatsApp name to that...
Can we all just agree to ignore the Burkes by pretending they don't exist, like a stain on a sofa, or the later seasons of the Simpsons
