You ever notice how in the Superman the Movie poster, he's got one fist out, and on Superman II he's got two fists out? Well BUCKLE UP, I gave him three and four fists for Superman III and Superman IV, respectively. Hilarious!

They're cowards for not doing this.

Almost Life a novel Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Very well-written, and as a result, gut-wrenching. Thankful that I am at an age where I have life experiences that allow me to relate, because I could feel what the characters were going through. I probably could have gotten more out of it if I had any knowledge of France or French, but that is among the very few things that put this just below an all-time favorite for me. Principal among them, me not getting what I wanted. But the story felt real, so the 'people' behaved how they did.

Black and white art of Snoopy as Guts, with armor and wielding a big sword, riding on top of a large Woodstock styled as Nosferatu Zodd with big wings and a broken horn, flying out of a portal. There’s a gothic logo on the top middle that says “SNOOPY.”

The treat in the tray it comes in. Looks legit like a chicken leg.

After a bite. The ice cream is hard and the breading seems to be corn flakes. Decent, but won't be anyone's favorite treat ever.

When watching a long series, they don't want you to forget the inciting action, so they replay it often. For Galaxy Express 999, that means I've watched Tetsuro's mother get shot and killed two dozen times at this point.

Hard Case Crime Complete and Unabridged Three-Time Edgar Award Winner and MWA Grandmaster Donald E. Westlake 361 He'd lost everything – except his eye for vengeance

There's a kernel of a good novel in here, but Westlake wasn't yet up to his full power, as this was written approximately the same time as the very first Parker novel. There are some beautiful passages in here, perhaps the most I've highlighted in a while.

But the sticking point is that the book is about a 23-year-old with no worldly experience talking and acting like Parker would. It doesn't make any sense and there's no reason for it, given the other aspects of time passage in the plot.

The other problem is the book seems unnecessarily obsessed with procedure. There are so many sections describing which trains and roads the characters took across New York, and how they researched antagonists. None of it is interesting and it very well represented up to 20% of the word count in the book.

Still, it's Donald Westlake, the greatest of all-time, and at least I got something out of it.

Letterboxd Movie Review

F Valentine's Day - 2026
2.5 / 5 stars

Watched April 15, 2026

It's hard to rate this because it is simultaneously the best and worst movie ever made.

- Worst script and plot you've ever seen
- Skylar Astin's jet black hair is definitely natural and not dyed
- There is a shot where a picture frame has a photo digitally inserted into it
- There are a bunch of AI slop pizzas pasted flatly into pizza boxes
- MARISA TOMEI FILMED THE ENTIRE MOVIE APART FROM THE REST OF THE CAST

I am dead serious about that last one. The characters she interacts with never cross the line. I was losing my shit. It's worth watching for that.

It's a cute movie despite these glaring flaws. It's the closest I'd ever get to enjoying a "so bad it's good" movie experience, because all the main actor performances are well-done especially on the weak material they're working with.

I read the rest of Batman: Dark Patterns over the last few nights, one story at a time. The rest is just as great, and I am going to by the physical book because the writing and the art are excellent! More of these and I might start reading Big 2 stuff again!!

I should note that before Jeremiah Jackson hit the grand slam, he hit a foul ball that smashed his manager Craig Albernaz in the face. This is not a joke.

I almost turned off the Orioles VOD when it went to 7-1 but I gave them the bottom half of the inning to bring me back and I got to see my favorite player Jeremiah Jackson hit a grand slam and second HR and the Orioles win 9-7 in their best game since the Cal Ripken game last year. GO BIRDS

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

When I was a kid I believed in a Business Pope. I thought there was a strict mercantile hierarchy, grocery stores and movie houses down near the bottom, factories and warehouses in the middle, Wall Street up near the top. And a Business Pope running the whole thing. I visualized the Business Pope as a shriveled ancient white-haired Pluto in a black leather chair. Black-capped chauffeur to the left, white-hipped nurse to the right. Every line on his face would record a decade of evil and cruelty and decay. I knew just what he would look like.

Captain Kirk becomes an interplanetary homicide detective!

THE VULCAN ACADEMY MURDERS

Captain Kirk becomes an interplanetary homicide detective! The new Star Trek novel THE VULCAN ACADEMY MURDERS Jean Lorrah

Very solid Trek novel from an author who started writing Trek fiction two decades earlier with Spockanalia, the first fanzine. Well-written, with a great understanding of the characters. Spock and Sarek feel screen-real.

My gripes are minor ones: a bit too long, too many similar Vulcan names, and the forward-looking disappointment that this murder mystery is spent on the TOS crew when obviously a few years later Picard is shown as The Detective Captain
