Excellent! I love the subject, the colors, the details. Well done.

For simplicity's sake, it works, but of course, he'd never do the work himself. He'd hire someone and then not pay them.

Who would dare make such foolish statements? Fie on them! Fie I say!

It’s a telling indicator of media desensitization that the US government’s ongoing program of murder on the high seas—which according to the perpetrators has killed fourteen (14) people this week— is no longer a subject for much serious or sustained news coverage.

"Cartoonishly stupid" and "trump" is redundant, but the point is well taken with that quote... yeesh...

And the same people supporting this crap will claim to be Christians and supporting the US being a "Christian nation."

every time i write about wage theft i do a double take because it's so crazy

corporations steal more than $50 bn from workers' paychecks each year, illegally paying workers less than they earned for their labor

that significantly exceeds the combined losses from larceny, burglary, & vehicle theft

In Jan 2010 ‘Citizens United was implemented & people were allowed to give unlimited amounts of money to politicians.

A huge percent comes from billionaires.

This is why we don’t have child care. health care - the basic needs of life that rich people easily access

This is GREAT! We all need to memorize it and speak it daily, at least once. Only then will the blue tide flood over.

Event Horizon, First Light, Book 1 25.000 words New Adult Sci-fi Adventure, Space Opera Standalone but Serialized Inspired by Golden Age sci-fi and 90's Star Trek

EVENT HORIZON: THE SYNOPSIS

The year is 2568, and humanity has spread itself thin and wide across the galaxy.
Less than half a century has passed since the Paradigm Shift, the cataclysmic event that caused the collapse of all large-scale galactic governments--and left thousands of worlds to their own devices. In the ashes of these Empires, the unexpected happened: Humanity rebuilt, and it rebuilt better.

It is now 50 years into humanity's Golden Age. A refugee named Yana finds her new, post-scarcity home just as asphyxiating as the ruins of her homeworld. Though all her needs are met, a deep discontentment still brews, despite all attempts to keep it at bay by focusing on her work as an epidemiologist, her pet amoeba, and a quickly crumbling social life.

The situation changes when Yana is accidentally recruited into the Galaxy's foremost peacekeeping organization, and realizes it might hold the answers she seeks.

Now, with her last shot at happiness on the line, she must either prove her worth to her new employers, or lose all her prospects--for good.

EVENT HORIZON: THE EXCERPTS

"In the third deck of the Nomadic Exploration Volunteers’ scout ship Radiant, Yana sat in a waiting room and considered all the decisions that had led her to this point.
The old vessel had been quick to work its strange magic on her. From the moment she stepped through the umbilical, a whole new world had welcomed her. A world of history—not the almost desperate remembrances of the Habitat’s Bellerophons and Devapalas and Anansis, not the things that were easy or empowering to remember, but real history, immediate history, written in dents and plasma burns and long sinuous scars in the fuselage. It reminded Yana of something she hadn’t seen in a long time—something she’d escaped, but had come to find herself missing, as if some part of her had craved the simplicity of hardship."

"She was standing on a flat platform lined with street lights, floating, island-like, in the darkness; next to her were Rook, and Six, and no-one else. A pipe hung from the unseen ceiling and gently touched down, the now inert transport pod cradled by its curvature. All else was amorphous, suggested though air vibrations and distant, echoing screeches.
Storage, the voice had said. Yana knew what the word truly meant. Every station, sooner or later, developed such places. They were the bowels of their artificial worlds, the layers between Layers, the unlit hollows where the extraneous and the unclaimed gathered out of sight and mind."

As I said during a discussion last night. Beyond all the racism, sexism, etc, conservatives have no interest in tomorrow. They can't plan in ways that positively affect anyone else. Thinking of others is not in their DNA.

"I avoid politics."

No bestie, you avoid uncomfortable conversations about politics. From the moment you were born til the day you die, you've been thoroughly and utterly enmeshed in the policies, systems, and governance of a society that shapes your experience.

You just try not to think about it.

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker on the first day of shooting.

50 years ago today, @markhamillofficial.bsky.social was preparing to film his first scene in a small film called Star Wars. Before the first lines were spoken, this photo was taken in... a galaxy far far away.

The President of the United States is a piece of shit.

Not news especially, but today I think it requires stating again.

Piece.
Of.
Shit.

A reminder that we don’t need billionaires to pay charity, we need them to pay their damn taxes. Billionaire philanthropy is PR to disguise their tax evasion.

Don’t fall for it. Tax billionaires. Save our democracy. Period.

Nothing good comes from government making lists like this.

Also, in trans folk who have had certain surgeries, the body no longer produces certain crucial hormones. When those hormones are withheld, that means death.

I knew that often there was some kind of "push this button for five seconds and turn on the windshield wipers" kind of trick to reset the warnings. Google at least got me partway there. Happy to help.

Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.

salmon/cotton candy pink background with a book cover and a cover blurb on it:

book cover:a very washed out/faded picture of a lit-up ferris wheel in a hazy summer sunset, with "Amusement Park Arcana" over it in black writing.

Jennifer R. Donohue is at the bottom.

cover blurb: Riley's best friend Tara went missing last October from the shitty amusement park where she worked. By spring, the police are no closer to having any answers, so Riley's taking it in her own hands.

She just knows Tara's still at the park somewhere, and an uncanny phone call on Riley's first day as a park employee only confirms that. The quest to bring Tara or her body home draws Riley further from her family and her boyfriend as she spends more time in the park's liminal spaces and opening day looms large.
