And let's also remember, the people saying this are very obviously Treliving's hires who have likely been told they probably won't be back.
So while I hate Pelley and what he represents, I'm pretty confident these are people trying to skew that situation to cover their own shortcomings.

Again, the article also says conversations with other teams only began in the final minutes, so unless he was jumping on phone calls with minutes remaining, those trade conversations were internal.
I read it and that's not how it comes across to me. The article says there weren't even calls on Laughton or McMann - literally no interest - until the final 15-30 minutes. And there was no other action.
So I think those comments would have been directed towards Treliving's perceived valuations.
He wasn't involved in the decisions. He was evaluating the guy making the decisions.
I don't like the guy, but he came in for one day and figured out Treliving and his staff had no fucking clue.
I don't really think this means what people think it does. If I was a non hockey person going to evaluate how my GM manages trading assets, asking AI to give me a history of trade values on different player types would be a reasonable use of the tool.
I don't think he's asking AI to build a team.
...any money for any of the businesses that support people.
If Gen Z can't afford any luxuries (or even basics), and their parents wealth is going to support their existence, this is bad for everyone long term.
Meanwhile, corporations move closer to complete market control of everything.
As much as Gen Z are currently the biggest victims, this isn't good for anyone.
It means they will invariably have to leech off Gen Y and X parents. Boomer inheritance are already going directly to covering debt.
Think about how this permeates through local economies.
It means no one has...
Nice. At 21 I was making about the same, but a car cost 30k and our first house was 350k.
Now that house is worth roughly 550k - so, pretty unattainable for a Gen Z kid.
The employees at the warehouse fire were making ~34k a year US.
I was making 37k at Blockbuster in 2007. I was 19.
Future bottom pair D!
Just 4 more years or so.
Obviously, but hire for the job you need done. I don't really see what AGMing a team like Florida for the last 3 years has in common with the job facing whoever we hire.
Florida didn't build a roster by plucking gems out of thin air. So I don't want to pretend Mehta did these things and then act surprised when he just repeats all the same retool shit.
It's a flawed strategy that especially can't work now.
Again, I just see this similar to the logic on Berube. Yea, he was a great coach for a team with two huge prime RHD and an entire roster of 35-55 points two way forwards. Not really relevant skills for our roster.
Don't really see where Mehta is going to find value with no assets and no ufas.
And the fans fucking despise being told players look good 'analytically'.
I want someone who has built something from the ground to because I think that's where we're very obviously headed.
I mean, most of the value Florida has was either long established - Barkov, Ekblad, Bobrovsky - or asked to be traded to them or took discounts to sign with them, or both.
I just think the job in Toronto is so different. No one wants to be here unless paid double. Managers want a TO tax for trades.
I mean, Friedman basically said as much last week. Apparently Treliving could only use scout speak to justify his terrible decisions.
But what has he actually done? What is he credited with doing for Florida?
This is insane.
What do people like about Mehta.
Nah. It doesn't really matter who they get if the mandate is a bullshit fantasy retool.
Free Agency is hot garbage. We can't afford to trade for anyone. No one wants our players. There is no manager combo that just magicks these realities away.
I think anyone they hire will fail if the mandate is to retool. That is a total fantasy that very very obviously won't work.
Can you share what you're reading?
I'm kind of concerned this guy is essentially getting credit for the Panthers ability to sign tax free deals and players forcing their way there at minimal returns.
Because if that's the case, those skills don't translate to managing the TML.
We never stop being an embarrassment.
Fuck Keith Pelley.
Please God no.
I think it's smart. They essentially need to go 4-0 or 3-0-1 in their last 4 games to have a chance.
Probably your best bet to achieve that is a new coach bump.
Looks to me like they just prioritized getting Schaeffer into the playoffs over Roy's feelings.
It's because they didn't want to risk a new coach bump. Berube has the team playing at 25% possession rates. It would be hard for anyone to coach worse numbers than that. It's absolutely wild they've collected any points in this span.
You think Berube didn't try yelling at the players, or....?
I knew the second he was hired it was the end of the era. If I knew, why didn't anyone in MLSE?
Yea, but does anyone really think that's what's going to happen?
He will be hired in June.
He's going to need an 'evaluation year'.
We'll be using the 'I just got here' excuse to explain why there were no notable trades or signings.
Jfc.
I still can't really get over that they were considering extending Tre until like 2 weeks ago, and as a result, have just now started the process of hiring a firm that will start the process of beginning to search for an eventual fit next week.
Bingo. It would be literally insane to plan around next season assuming Tanev will play like he's 33 again. That's not a realistic plan. It's barely even wishful thinking.
Hope you enjoyed the long read.
