Just a week remains in our summer campaign to support bikes, bicycle advocacy, and safe riding! Please consider a small (or large!) contribution now. It'll be the most impactful $ you spend all day, I promise. secure.givelively.org/donate/leagu...

I love books and (even more) being a part of author events to share my book, Climate Resilience for an Aging Nation. Check out the lineup for next week's Natural Hazards workshop in CO! #hazws2025 @hazcenter.bsky.social @islandpress.bsky.social hazards.colorado.edu/workshop/202...
Our own @carsonmk.bsky.social says the Workshop is the place where she found "her people" and her place in the hazards and disaster field. We're thrilled to be welcoming you to the 50th annual Workshop in just over a week! Click to read more about what makes this gathering so special: bit.ly/3I6428D
Have you hopped on your bike recently? If so, did you use bike lanes or see improved bike signage along the way? If yes, you may have @bikeleague.org to thank for the education/advocacy/research to get there. Thank them by donating to secure.givelively.org/donate/leagu.... Do it today! Thank you!
I said to an audience yesterday at @weillcornell.bsky.social with NYAM staff (convened to discuss research needs for the climate/aging intersection) that writing my book felt like a lonely enterprise, but turned out to be a beacon call to fellow champions. Thank you! islandpress.org/books/climat...
Happy #earthday! What better time to share the news that I'm featured in @islandpress.bsky.social's new e-book, Resilience Matters: Ten Years of Transformative Thinking. My piece urges greater focus on older adults' needs in climate action. Get your free copy here: islandpress.org/ten-years-tr....

Hey y’all! Here’s a chance to get my book at a bargain (and some other fantastic titles too!!)
7/7 I hope that those in power come to their senses to reverse course on this tragic decision to close USAID -- and soon.
y6/6 As we abruptly depart these relationships (with our foreign-born staff, gov peers, CBO partners, et al), we leave a vacuum in leadership and goodwill that will put us at risk. Plus we worsen the lives of millions of people's lives.
5/ Because of those investments and the decades of work, we as Americans have benefitted from people around the world that regard the US with respect and gratitude, who have more agency and ability to improve their own futures, and who aspire to build democratic systems for themselves.
4/? Peers of mine worked -- until this weekend, at least -- to strengthen groups that advance democracy abroad, improve maternal and children health, build a free media, enable girls to get education, develop alternatives to energy generation that reduce climate change. And so much more.
3/? It was a joy and a challenge. USAID isn't perfect (nor was my little program), but I knew that the ends were noble. I never met a single 'evil' person at USAID. Just folks who wanted to uplift the quality of life of those who were born in countries without the power and privilege of the U.S.
2/?
Working at USAID was my first "real" job after grad school. I was put in charge of a program that fostered partnership exchanges between city managers in the US and their counterparts in developing countries to improve communities with better land use planning, waste management, and services.
I've been encouraged to share this more broadly, so here goes:
In defense of the apple that is USAID.
I really don't like to get political, especially here with friends and family. But I feel compelled to speak up for this agency that is being so villainized, and dismantled as we speak. 1/?
I have been struggling with what to say on this. The fires will absolutely expose vulnerabilities for older adults that most seem not to want to acknowledge or address. They won’t be the focus of the top stories we will read about regarding the first, but are there nonetheless.
This is our future.
Have to say that there is no more beautiful place on Earth than Central
Coast of CA.
Solstice in Denver. Lovely to see so many other people come out too to see our shortest day come to an end.
Tomorrow is the day, all! There are many worthy organizations, but there is no one like the @bikeleague.bsky.social, which is committed to creating a Bicycle-Friendly America for everyone. When we do, healthier people and stronger communities are the result. Please consider giving at any level. TY!
Last day! Fetch my book and others at a steal. Props to @islandpress.bsky.social for bringing new planning ideas and solutions to light!
Just over a week until Giving Tuesday, but no need to wait!! Join me in donating today to support the @bikeleague.bsky.social e in their quest to bring #bikejoy to everyone, and make our communities more bicycle-friendly for all. secure.givelively.org/donate/leagu...
