I think they took the investment instead of monetising their enthusiastic user base because they want to get rid of this userbase and get a different one they like better. So presumably the investors are ok with this.
So, last year, I applied to be part of the comms and marketing team at Bluesky. I'm an elder and an active user with a comms and marketing background for a large organization... seemed like a good fit.
Turns out, actually liking the user base here and hating AI were fatal flaws.
It's just fascinating to me how the Bluesky team keeps taking active steps to look bad. They don't just randomly step on rakes. They go into the shed, lift the rake off where it's hanging on the wall, carefully place it on the grass, and then step full force on that motherfucker.
They didn't get their crypto-bro user base, and functionally no one here gives a shit about decentralization. People came here because, on a surface level, it was basically Twitter, but with less explicit nazism; we didn't come because of whatever the fuck an AT protocol is.
