still can’t believe that given the choice between “bountiful, free, clean energy from the earth, wind, and sun” and “poisonous dead animal sludge price sensitive to global politics” we keep choosing the latter

In times of crisis, we must all decide again and again whom we love.
—Frank O’Hara
In this uncontainable night, be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses, the meaning discovered there. And if the world has ceased to hear you, say to the silent earth: I flow. To the rushing water, speak: I am.

This village uses its solar income on free communal lunches, buses and other communal efforts.“If you divide money as individual income, people feel disconnected. People who didn’t know each other for years now get to know each other within days”
I love everything about this.
🚨🚨 Today, we’re launching “Stop Greed Build Green,” a strategic framework and agenda to confront the affordability crisis and the climate crisis together by putting working people in charge of the economy and the climate transition. (1/10)
It is time for a working class climate strategy. A better world is possible—and necessary!

Very happy to have another poem in @thedodgemag.bsky.social for their Spring issue:

You are who I love
You who the borders crossed
You whose fires
You decent with rage, so in love with the earth
You writing poems alongside children
You cactus, water, sparrow, crow You, my elder
You are who I love,
summoning the courage

NAACP announced it is suing xAI over its second data center in Memphis, claiming the company is illegally operating 27 gas turbines without a permit
Wrote a poem about Spring for our town paper (note: apparently the website can't handle any formatting or indenting, but sort of charming to see it "stripped down"):

A GENTLE REMINDER: we are trying to eliminate fossil fuels because using them kills us.
If fossil fuels were cheap (they're not) or reliable (they're SO NOT), it would still be urgent to get rid of them because their intended use destroys our life support systems.
I would like to uplift and remind all of us that people across the country are organizing against detention and are fighting the warehouse concentration camps. You can get connected to the work by joining a mass call on 4/14 - www.mobilize.us/indivisible/...

"We health professionals must call urgent attention to this silent but deadly assault on Americans’ health...and ultimately rebuild the agencies, protections, & shared sense of trust & responsibility that have given us clean air and water & enabled us & our children to live longer, healthier lives"

We don’t have universal healthcare for the same reason that white southerners poured cement into their community swimming pools rather than let their black neighbors swim in them. Racism is ruining ALL of our lives.
“Lord, take my heart and yassify it with your love.”
"But it’s important to remember: The oil industry is spending $7 billion a year telling you oil is inevitable not because it’s true, but because it desperately needs everyone to believe it. If everyone does not believe this, they are screwed."
Big Oil is no longer trying to convince us they want to preserve a safe & stable climate
Now, they're focused on convincing us that the world is only safe & stable if they're in charge
That's the thesis of a new @cleancreatives.bsky.social report analyzing 2000 oil ads, exclusively in HEATED today
"Internal company documents show oil giants knew that their practices were devastating coastal land, water, and habitats, and would eventually incur legal action — yet worked to delay cleanup and accountability for as long as possible."
The oil industry began issuing internal warnings about their coastal operations nearly 100 years ago. In 1932, a report written for the American Petroleum Institute warned of the dangers of saline & carcinogenic oil production waste leaking into the environment — & the likelihood of lawsuits.

"This will not be done with words alone. It will not be done with escapist ideologies and token programs. It will be done with political commitment to building a majority movement for change, and with social commitment to using newly gained political power for the cause of social justice."
Public power could mean a 15% reduction in everyone's electricity bill if we do it right.
How much profit is your utility making off you?
Electricity costs are soaring - this tool from @energyandpolicy.org shows how much extra your utility charges per month.
Nationally, electric utilities took ~15% of your bill for profit last year.
