This is like "Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials" for fancy literary families, isn't it? :)

Reminds me of how I, a child of the '80s, am aware of The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, but dubious of how some older folks think they're a big deal or something.
Good gosh, that's a handsome cat.
Heck yeah. The most exciting five seconds a quarter can buy.
QTP with a video game that transports you back to your childhood
oh FUCK yeah
Welcome to the club! (*sad trombone instead of trumpet fanfare*)
Up until 10 years ago, I was proud of my "better than perfect" 30/20 vision. These days, I carry around 2 or even 3 pairs of glasses, and have readers scattered around the house. And I use one of these unironically.
lol. TIL.
I hit a new record this week. To log in to TurboTax, I had to dismiss a sequence of *seven* prompts asking me to use a passkey.
Oof dah.
I would say Sulu could get it. But I don't need to. Because when you watch him on screen – his dress, his posture, his line delivery – this is obviously a man who spends a fair amount of his time getting it.
That's, like, a week-long seminar and forum topic, but the short answer is prolly just "because Adobe and spammers". ;)
Oh no! What happened to your kitchen? Bad storm or plumbing bummer?
A split bar chart of YouGov polling data with the headline: "Americans are most likely to say T. Rex is their favorite dinosaur, but many don't have a favorite." The chart has the sub-headline: "Which of the following is your favorite dinosaur? (%)." The chart has the note: "Note: "Other" includes responses of archaeopteryx, spinosaurus, plesiosaur, ankylosaurus, allosaurus, parasaurolophus, dilophosaurus, diplodocus, iguanadon, and pachycephalosaurus, as well as responses of "other." We know pterodactyls and plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs. Opinion about dinosaurs comes from the question, "How much do you like or dislike dinosaurs?""
A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur.
And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops).

Hey, NYC peeps. If you're in to jazz/pop fusion – Grace Kelly (from 2Saxy) is doing a solo show at Joe's Pub this Sunday the 19th. I bet it's gonna be cool.
And it's cheaper than Yoko Kanno.

Gravy on french fries is a superior option, I have to admit.
Today I encountered an advanced captcha on eBay, that was like "are you human?" and then like, "select the items which can be played to make music" and showed me some pics of guitars, pizza slices, and water towers. And I'm like, motherfucker, have you ever heard of Einstürzende Neubauten?
Let them all fly. Let it all burn. Humans don't deserve to win this war.
Considering changing my handle to andrew@matlab.wtf.
I have some much funnier domain names hoarded, but they're used for my actual serious cloud-host presence, so I don't want to expose them that publicly.
Now that's *praxis*.
Ayup. If you want to post and look at good photos, at a place that cares about copyright and licensing (and even camera spec & settings metadata), Flickr is still where it’s at.
Vigilante sanitation! I started doing this too, after reading about it being a trend in NYC last year. It's pretty fun? And I think my neighborhood is noticeably cleaner.

Me too! Mine's at Mt. Sinai. DM me if you want info.
Bloops for the bloop god. Make your offering, and ask your boon.
Yeah, I'm not sure exactly who to blame here. But these days I am frowny about everyone involved, so that doesn't bother me much.
Dammit. I came here to make this joke about 2001.
I hear that.
Also maybe part of it is that software/computer/appliance doco is lousy now, and SEO/content-farms/ads/clickbait/etc have kinda ruined the web and search engines; and chatbots give you "I type a search term and can get a page of plain-ish text about my topic". Refreshing.
BTW, my own backup situation is pretty degraded right now, and I'm looking to jump ship from Backblaze to something else for cloud backup. (My faith in them is gone, and... they stopped backing up Dropbox files?) But haven't found anything I like. Let me know if you find something good?
Good lord this is so true.
I *am* a software guy, with 3 decades experience, and just this week, I...
a) learned that Bsky feeds even exist (bsky.app/profile/apja...)
b) was grudgingly dicking around with Spotlight bc I mostly just want to use the default tools (bsky.app/profile/apja...)
