1) That's less than 20% in CA not most
2) And because of prop 13 they can make money renting those investment homes but pay almost nothing in property tax
3) These investors and wealthy homeowners both lobby to stop new construction so their properties go up in value

Prop 13 has absolutely crushed California's schools and local infrastructure and has forced younger and poorer home owners to subsidize the same people who bought in cheap and then enriched themselves by creating a housing shortage

Oh sorry I see you don't like him because he supports human rights for people you don't like. I wouldn't have engaged if I knew you were the baddie. Makes the rest of us Jews look bad btw.

You lack reading comprehension and also knowledge of the civil rights movement... But I'll start here: we're not talking about changing people who are racist we're talking about bringing young men to our side *before* the algorithm sends them into a right wing radicalization path.

Imagine if civil rights movement leaders were like "they hate black people in the South, we're not going there"

Choosing unfettered capitalism over recruiting young people to stop fascism is why we can't have nice things. I'm not even socialist but if Dems didn't see themselves in a war with two fronts (and didn't see the left as the more dangerous one), then we would be able to have nice things.

Start with yourself haha

Oh so you speak for all black people now? He tells that to most people who disagree with him ๐Ÿ˜‚ He's inflammatory bc that's what you need to do to be successful in the space. But you can try to use minorities you don't care about as an excuse just like Cuomo used us Jews as a pawn.

Hasan is anti-racist but otherwise yes that's how our tech overlords have designed the system. Can't fix that until we regulate the algorithms.

1 week ago 0 0 2 0

This sentiment is why we lost to fascism FYI. Hasan is basically the only force counteracting right wing radicalization online, and those young men who are being courted by the right are not going to read your book. You need to meet them where they are.

It's like a game of telephone but everyone in the chain has a bias against Hasan, so you just get lower and lower quality information about him that always skews in one direction. Anyone who talks live and unscripted for 7 hours a day will look dumb sometimes, especially clipped out of context.

Not one mention of alcohol in the entire article, mickey mouse reporting from NYT

I'm curious how this stove will handle high heat for searing. My portable induction cooktop (duxtop) is great, but will automatically shut off from overheating before it can get a good sear on anything.

I think 99.99% of these incidents would be solved with 1) supportive services for mental health / homelessness and 2) more access to public restrooms. I don't think the threat of arrest changes behavior at all, and I've never seen a non-homeless person pee on the subway.

Lol this guy is never becoming president, pathetic levels of ambition

Part of the problem is the lack of a viable solution. You need a lot of funding support a counter to this, and you need the messaging to be emotionally engaging. The winning / emotionally engaging narrative on the left is against those with the consolidated wealth to fund it.

I used to think highly of you, but this is bad

If Republicans thought getting rid of the filibuster was a net positive for them vs Dems on legislation, they could do it today at no political cost.

I thing I was trying to add more emphasis to the differences so I added a little of my own color ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

reading comprehension lesson:

there's a big difference between "your freedom isn't guaranteed so you can't just sit back doing nothing and expect everything to be fine" (Ben's point) and "you should be grateful for what you have because it used to be much worse" (Boomer talk)

Either Matt's brain has been too broken by Twitter that he's completely out of touch with people in the real world, or he's actually just two Ben Shapiro's in a trench coat trying to trick Democrats to appeal to nobody and appease GOP goals.

Genuinely curious because I'm trying to catch up here and seeing both sides. What was the catty horseshit that trivialized the work? It feels like Will's story here is actually interesting and worthwhile (has been for me at least), but I may be missing something.

Good to know I'm understanding correctly and you aren't. This misses the whole point because nobody is blaming the author.

2 months ago 0 0 0 0

Original argument was nobody did anything racist, but he's missing that they didn't do what was expected to prevent being racist. That's omission vs commission. Still a problem, still has the same impact.

2 months ago 0 0 0 0

You gotta take a breath man because you're skipping past reading and jumping right into an argument that's only in your head.

Newspaper should have someone to check this. Nobody was racist, the script isn't either, ownership was just too cheap to care if they did something racist on accident.

2 months ago 1 0 1 0

If you don't understand the concepts don't blame the vocabulary haha, but go ahead tell me what you think the argument is

Person A: "the outcome is racist"
Person B: "how can you think this is racist when there was nobody racist involved?"

Do you see how he's arguing a different point? He's assuming it must be an error of commission to be racist, which is not how structural racism works.

2 months ago 0 0 1 0

I think you need to take a step back and say "is it a good thing that there's no human oversight for a newspaper's postst? would it prevent accidentally appearing racist if someone checked these things before it went out on the internet?" The blame is on lack of staffing, not a racist person.
