Kaitlin Hawayek’s recent blog, “A Healthier Future for Figure Skating,” offers important insight on the sport’s balance between athleticism and aesthetics, while advocating for body neutrality and athlete well-being.

Not entirely shocked since I don’t think Ryuichi’s back has another quad left in it, but it’s still sad news and I’m going to miss them. Thankful they are going out on top with another promising pair coming up behind them! ⛸️
You can use this to be snarky about the FBC merch giveaway and tell the isu you'd like them to stop letting athletes be abusive without consequences
Happy retirement, Josefin 🥺 This judging system has paid you dust, but you'll always remain a people's skater 💙 ⛸️

Holy shit. Just casually skating a world record program with every bit of intensity that he did in his competition days, after already skating fifteen minutes?
Wakaba retired from competition...

Things at figure skating comps that need to die (but likely won't):
-LED boards
-LED images/animations of the skaters
-skaters being made to run into the arena on their blades
-skaters being interviewed right after leaving the ice
-leader chair in the arena
-LED flags at victory ceremony
-drones
After Kaori’s FS

This means there won't be any new figure skating photos from me in the future either - sorry!
Call me when the tech panels & judges have been 85% replaced by impartial machines that follow the rules meticulously, consistently & accountably... and only 15% of scoring is left to human subjectivity...
...A sport ruined by bent judges, bullshit scoring, fake rivalries & phoney champions. Not to mention doping scandals & institutionalised abuse.
I might still follow FS somewhat, but I doubt I'll ever go to another competition in person - because I do not want my money to support the corrupt ISU.
Wakaba's official support towel
Wakaba was the last of my All-Time Favourites still competing. She was the only reason I still went to competitions in person.
I have avoided forming new favourites, so Wakaba's retirement not only marks the end of a golden era of skating, but also my release from this rotten sport...
Wakaba's farewell to her long-time sponsors Seibu/Prince Ice World after officially announcing retirement 🥺

Oh? Shame, cos I think gloves often add emphasis & visibillity to hand shapes, movements & expressiveness?
Seems it's easy for skaters to cut their hands on the ice, so I figured Wakaba was guarding against that? Cos sometimes her gloves didn't seem part of her costume? (Separate & just skin-color)

Wakaba Higuchi, of course (It seemed to me, like she'd been consciously improving her hands the last few years...)

Wakababy I'll miss you so much
Thank you for all the glorious skates you gave us
Back in 2014, more than 90k people showed up in Sendai for Yuzu's Olympic victory parade after Sochi. He had just made history as the first Asian man to win Oly gold in figure skating 🙂↕️
#YuzuruHanyu #羽生結弦
A two-time Olympic champion who also fills the Tokyo Dome on his own. Yuzu really stands alone 🫡🫡

it's actually kind of insane how all of figure skating world tried to gaslight us into thinking anybody skating at the time was anywhere near yuzuru's level actually
looking back and watching them again that's some big lol
IMO this kind of shit just differentiates the kiddies who are stanning skaters like pop stars vs actual fans of the sport who understand the nuance of the skills. It’s the four year fan who only roots for their country but updated to modern internet stan culture where stan goggles make them blind
so fstwt has swung back to "if you like Japanese skaters you're a weeb"
but Japanese skaters legitimately have the best skating skills and the best ice coverage and knees because of how figure skating is taught and trained in Japan.
Yeah, we all love Alysa.
But her scores?
FS was typically American: upper body, head & neck locked in "safe" position almost the entire program i.e. much lower difficulty than other skaters.
Arms lacked elegance. Weak choreo. Footwork, edges, speed were nothing special.
And yet, THAT PCS?! 🙄
alysa's combo got the same call as kaori's and mone's.
adelia's jumps got no calls.
alysa has no edge call.
isu doing this stuff is why i find it very hard to sympathise with us skaters even when they're good people.
