Even I -ostensibly a Classicist - have needed the Wayback Machine for research recently.

Two hardback books sitting on a wooden table. Both are titled 'Studies in Greek literature', with white lettering on a black background in Cambridge University Press style. The cover image of the first volume is a red-figure vase painting showing a group of women - one is sitting and reading a scroll while the others look on.
Two important volumes - the collected papers of Prof Pat Easterling, the first (and so far only) woman to hold the Regius Chair of Greek at Cambridge, an alumna & honorary fellow of @newnhamcollege.bsky.social, & a hugely important scholar on Greek tragedy. All online via Cambridge core...
Can’t stop thinking about this. Well done to that student.
Very rude that we’ve endured a ‘90s fashion revival, countless big Spice Girls/ All Saints 💓/ Oasis reunions, but no Alisha’s Attic reunion tour.
This is a nice bit of good news. A good reminder to redouble our conservation efforts!
I think I met Averil Cameron only once, when I was a terrified graduate student, but she was a significant influence for her quiet radicalism - how many ancient historians were thinking about post-structuralism in the 1980s, and engaging with people like John Henderson?
As we mourn the great Averil Cameron, I point you to her autobiographical talk from 2017: on being working class and female in Ancient History wcc-uk.blogs.sas.ac.uk/2017/05/22/s...
That was my first thought
Finally summoned up the courage today to take a look at a chapter I first wrote a couple of years ago and it wasn’t as horrible as I imagined! It’s easy to feel disconnected and out of place when it comes to research when no one’s properly paid you to do any in a good few years.
actually this makes me feel so much better about my stats tyvm

My photo shows a ceramic storage jar, with a narrow base and a broad rounded body. It has two thick loop handles attached high on the shoulders to the neck. The surface is mostly pale cream, with dark brown neck/spout. On the front is a large circular dark brown panel painted with a large white daisy-like flower motif. It has many long narrow petals radiating outwards from a round orange center. The jar is visibly reconstructed from fragments, with fine crack lines running across the surface.
Minoan amphora with floral design.
3,800 years old and still blooming gorgeous! 🌸

Gone down a rabbit hole and found an Australian band singing the whole song in Latin
Thought of doing a little pub quiz to help intermediate Latinists practise numerals, but I’m not sure if The Proclaimers are going to be within the realms of their experience
Recently finished the BBC comedy ‘Dinosaur’ about an autistic palaeontologist, her family, and romantic life. It’s written by and starring Ashley Storrie, who is herself autistic. Gentle and charming but very funny. An excellent watch.

From Wikipedia: According to Jon Pertwee's memoirs, the idea for the series began as a proposed film about the Worzel Gummidge character by Waterhouse and Hall which would have been "about the scarecrow equivalent" of the Peasants' Revolt, with the scarecrows rising up against farmers who were going to burn them when the farming season had finished. Pertwee was approached to play the lead character by producer Gareth Wigan. 15] When that project was unable to secure the funds it needed for a distribution deal,
I hadn’t realised it had been resurrected. If only this storyline where to gain traction:
Other Latin Consequences sentences:
“The stinky girl guards the foul beast so that it might burn”
“The paralysed lemon with a sharpe scythe calls the imperfect dogs”
Been watching Small Prophets and Detectorists recently and I can’t help but feel that Mackenzie Crook is one of our greatest living pastoralists
Just in case you're wondering if this is you... By personal tutoring, I mean a system where a student is allocated to a member of academic staff with pastoral responsibility for them. Other titles include academic tutor, college advisor, academic advisor, academic support tutor & academic mentor.
Latin Consequences gave us a sentence about a “thunder octopus” who was beaten “in a beautiful death” 😢
I even bought some embossing foil to use as lamellae.
A day of pedagogical experimentation today: making defixiones in Beginners’ Latin to practise relative clauses (and subjunctives) and trying out a Latin Consequences game to explore sentence structure in Intermediate.
Do u think they did an equalities audit before deciding on a two-tier workforce because I have some wild guesses about who is most impacted here.
Plotting and plotting: what are the best ways to get my intermediates more confident with Latin word order and sentence structure and improve fluency? I am thinking a variation of Latin consequences, maybe some kind of prediction drill. I have dreams of convoluted card and online games. Any ideas?
I reviewed again!
