something i remember about earlier kotaku/1up/gamasutra/rps is the way individual writers came across on their beats. i'm guilty of only looking in now: I basically never read RPS because it only grew up in technical writing not aim.

also: i don't lile the editorial voice of a lot of publications anymore. In exchanging a type of juvenile ubiquity of earlier games/hobby press for higher-brow sounding day to day writing something has been lost, and I'm not sure what it's been.
