New @cmf-fmc.bsky.social program dates and some program changes announced today! Make sure to refer to cmf-fmc.ca to see if there are any that impact you or your studio!
Trans people deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated, especially for their countless contributions to the games industry.
Build better spaces. Hire them. Fund them. Play their games.
At IAA, we are proud to run programs/events that support marginalized communities and will continue to do so.
if you're a gamer you should know that the gaming industry has a disproportionately large number of trans people in it. and not just recently. even in the 80s, we had influential trans game designers.
one that's always inspired me is danielle bunten berry.

Happy to see @onlybymidnight.bsky.social and @buffalobuffalo.bsky.social, two studios who showed their games at GDX, nominated for best indie game. Only wish their games were also acknowledged in the other major categories and not just relegated to purely indie!
Definitely sign up, we'll be covering more than just GDX! If you're an Alberta Indie, it's important to be part of the conversation!
Reminder of this upcoming event on April 2!
We are hosting an online Indie Town Hall. This will be a conversation on the future of GDX.
There will be many pieces of the event that we address as well as the ecosystem as a whole.
Come ready to be honest, constructive, and future-focused.

GDX 2026 will spotlight creators who are actively reshaping the games industry right now. Not as a side note. Not as a token gesture. As leaders on all levels.
Stay tuned and Happy International Women's Day 🤷♀️
At Interactive Arts Alberta, we are not interested in preserving the status quo. We are interested in changing it.
Whether you're exploring a career in interactive arts, starting a studio, or showing up as a fan, you belong here.
We work every day with brilliant women and non-binary creators who are building studios, leading teams, shifting culture, and redefining what games can be, and yet the industry still reflects structural barriers that keep too many voices out.
Three women and one girl are featured in pictures that spell out IAA. There is an Interactive Arts Alberta logo followed by "Wishing everyone a happy International Women’s Day from Interactive Arts Alberta. Curious how we celebrate this day? First we start by celebrating it today on a day with a full 24 hours." it then instructs you to scroll for more.
Text slide "Interactive Arts Alberta is a non-profit with gender parity amongst our board and majority women and gender diverse volunteers. This is no coincidence. While women gamers make up 51% of the market, the games industry only has 25% of roles occupied by women and gender diverse individuals."
Another text slide with "Our approach? reject. the. status. quo. Representation in leadership and in the industry is important"
Text slide with "Interested in participating in systemic interruption? Connect with IAA and stay tuned for announcements in regards to our speaker line up for GDX 2026 and volunteer opportunities. We will never wait for the “right time” to have these conversations. There needs to be change in this industry and we will continue to advocate for marginalized genders and diverse individuals"
25%.
That’s the percentage of women and gender-diverse individuals in the global games industry. Just in the industry, not even in leadership.
That number isn’t just disappointing. It’s unacceptable.
Looking to get more involved with IAA? We're recruiting! Keep your eyes open for more posts, but for now we're looking for a volunteer Website Manager!
