I remember USSR was even larger than today's Russia and the size of USSR didn't help it in the end. The Afghanistan war lasted for 9 years and USSR redrew. Russia is loosing way more in the war against Ukraine than in Afghanistan.

If you have heard about Ukraine then you know that Russia doesn't export much oil these days. It doesn't mean much that Trump has removed sanctions on the Russian oil.
