We got the video of the parachuter at Virginia Tech. They have rescued him at this point and he’s down off the scoreboard. Working to get more info.

and then the other thing

10 year old me was confessing being mean to my parents and talking back to a teacher. unfathomable to imagine disrespecting the Pope. that must be like 1000 Hail Holy Queens and several Apostle's Creeds

in a way, the rite is intended to make one consider how their actions impact other people. though it also contributed to my lifelong anxiety that re-thinks every interaction I have had with anyone ever it also taught me to remain considerate of others as I navigate life

my choice of "apologize" is intentional. the difference between a confession and an apology was not taught in catholic grade school. nuns told me I should confess times in which I thought I was rude to someone. Priest would tell me to say two hail marys and be nicer to my classmates

the thing about adult catholic converts is that they read the scripture without any of the ingrained-from-childhood guilt and unwavering respect of elders

I grew up going to weekly confession while being taught that there is always SOMETHING to apologize for

I don’t want to say the Yankees offense is bad but I am looking forward to getting Volpes bat back in the lineup.

The Dead Milkmen - Stuart (US, 1988) YouTube video by VinylVague

the protagonist in the dead milkmen song "stuart" was satirical in 1988 but now represents the median voter and some supreme court justices

when the Baltimore bridge collapsed there were suddenly a lot of navigation experts on Twitter. Guys with names like MagaFred17 were confident that they would have avoided the bridge if they were captain. Time for them to step up

30 years ago I saw henry rollins speak and something stuck with me. he said (paraphrasing) that he wouldn't just say a band sucks. he would buy the album, listen to it, take notes, just so he could say: this band sucks because on track 1 they do.. track 2 they... he wanted his hate to be accurate

the contemporary ad model is so openly hostile to the user experience and I hate it.

i have cable tv and i pay extra for the sports package and I watch most yankee games and I'm still subjected to a yes network ad every 5 rows in the channel listing.

NYT connections was a fun play today. shout out to the developer who got the clues to display correctly. it is using images when game normally uses text. I wonder if connections always had this feature or if this was a sudden change. I like the non standard format of the clues.

I downloaded a violent femmes album with tracks that weren't named correctly. for years I thought Kiss Off was actually Add It Up because the file names were swapped. It made sense to me because I thought Add It Up would be the song with the counting

even if everything downloaded right, you're still hoping that the album is real and actually what is described. though this was more prevalent later in the napster era when you'd come across tracks like blink182-all_for_the_nookie_(cover).mp3

it was always an adventure

with dial up modem speeds it took hours to download all of the posts. don't get too excited to listen to the new everclear album yet, because post 37 of 50 is corrupt and won't decode.

forgotten internet history. before Napster, Usenet was a predominant distribution channel for MP3s. files were encoded as text and split across like 50 posts. your newsreader (app) would download the posts, combine them, and decode into binary file.

If you use GitHub (especially if you pay for it!!) consider doing this *immediately*

Settings -> Privacy -> Disallow GitHub to train their models on your code.

GitHub opted *everyone* into training. No matter if you pay for the service (like I do). WTH
