"Why is Daniel Kibblesmith blocking me" I saw you be weird to someone else two months ago when neither of you knew I was watching.

nah. I’ve lived in both places

California has two major mountain ranges. The winter storm warning is because this system is bringing the snow level down to 5,000 feet. We don‘t get deep freezes that immobilize our major population centers at sea level for weeks at a time. that’s Texas nonsense.

my brain *struggled* to process this image. it looks like about four different and truly awful things, and not one of them is a swan

while @jamellebouie.net isn’t wrong to note that this sounds like warmed over David Duke ca 1990, it is also very much vintage Peter Thiel circa 1988. these arguments were circulating in the debate over Stanford’s western culture program, a debate Thiel lost.

he’s been bent on vengeance ever since.

Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.

It does not seem like it should be a controversial point that sometimes terrible things are nobody’s fault

I am literally always thinking about this. Not how to place op eds or how to write pieces for the public. About ways to have scholars in conversation with people about their work. Like the agricultural extension service, but for every discipline. Like “come talk to a living Wikipedia rabbit hole.”

A large hardback book sits on top of a green sewing mat. The cover illustration shows a lone register of marble columns, some toppled into the grass. High on a hill in a far background stands a 19th century church.

for those intrigued by Pope Leo's visit to Annaba, Algeria, I can recommend this wonderful and richly illustrated overview of the archaeology of Hippo, where Augustine served as bishop. My dream travel destination!

We need historians because evidence doesn’t explain itself.

Context does not simply exist. It is built through research, interpretation, and critical analysis.

What stories have you uncovered in the historical record?
