Curious what your idea of a ‘minor’ sport is

One of the best things about this Olys is seeing the age of skaters rising. When my coaches told me to quit at 17 I listened bc I assumed they were right - I was past any chance of ‘prime’ and would never find success.

They were so wrong for that, I just had no idea there was another option.

Also I keep getting served reels on ig and fb of adults who have started skating in their 30s+ sharing their progress. It is the most delightful content imaginable. To see people falling in love with this sport on their own terms with whatever body they’ve got? Unbelievably inspiring to me

Look at what can happen when we prioritize joy. When we do things for ourselves. I keep crying thinking about Alysa. I hope this sport never goes back to what it used to be.
It feels like she won it for everyone who has ever quit because their body wasn’t theirs anymore, who had lost the joy.

Tara said one of the pair teams was skating 8mph and that most average 15. I thought that was SO SLOW so @futurexskeleton.bsky.social told me to dl Strava and track my warmup on the ice this afternoon as not-an-Olympian 😅

Ioulia Chtchetnina is doing this Olympics so right - she and her partner are at the bottom of the pack but their pure joy and delight shows they understand that just being there is the win. I yearn for that joy in every skater.

Honestly the fact that Tara and Johnny compliment the artistry of any pair team with a straight face makes me feel like they should’ve been better on The Traitors
