Musicians should borrow a page from food influencers and just post videos of themselves listening to their own music and acting like its the best thing they've ever heard, instead of actually releasing any music.

Real question, why does the matzoh man dance to the Dayenu song?

It could also be a case of two places copypasta the press materials but then trying to distinguish it by changing a few words around. But I guess that only works if youre the only person who does it. Either way its informative about who is writing.

Is my recent discovery that a freshly sliced apple is a delicious treat the result of my having a toddler, or is it because midwestern popular apple-consciousness in the mid-80s and early-90s had not extended far beyond Granny Smith and the horrendous Red Delicious.

Two turnips, which i have cut into shapes for a stew. The one on the right is a "chrysanthemum" cut, based on a video i saw from Shota Nakajima. The one on the left is what im calling a peony cut, that i made up, but I like how it turned out!

Is it good professional hygiene to post your records for Bandcamp Friday on Bluesky? Link to all of my records in the profile.

True or false: over the past decade, you need to come from a family in the top 10% of income earners and/or net worth in order to be in the conversation in indie music.

Go to an open mic! You can even scope one out ahead of time as a listener to figure out your comfort level with the place.

The Tyranny of Rhyme and Metaphor in Songwriting A number of years ago, when I was beginning to write my own songs, a fellow songwriter confronted me very seriously about my writing, telling me that I should have a go at writing more “tradi…

A late counterproposal, to a suggestion that I write "more traditional" songs. I will probably continue to edit this post as I think through the issue. But I provide some I think new and unique takes on the matter.

The only scene i knew from Meet Joe Black was btw Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins where Hopkins goes on what seems like a 10 min. speech about cold lamb sandwiches. He says "cold lamb sandwiches" so many times, it feels like its an advertisement for cold lamb sandwiches.

This was hilarious btw.

I've been understanding less and less what the news is ever since outlets were paying for ads on old articles to drum up ad revenue. Outlets are now libraries of stories that generate revenue over time (and im sure authors dont get a cut). I also saw GroundNews is AI generated summaries too?

I think if many people used the DEI standards that are expected of large corporations, they would find out that their curation standards are much worse than large horrible corporations like Microsoft and JP Morgan.

Music journalists should institute the DEI practices they advocate for in the workplace, and look at the racial makeup of their listening queue throughout the year, move up bands from minority and underrepresented backgrounds. And do a yearly diagnosis on what they listen to and review every year.

Why would they call the show Trash Truck, when it clearly relies on an ensemble cast?

I was just generally surprised by his taste in general. Dunkirk as the #4 best film of the 21st century? I didn't hate it, but it was basically a Seinfeld episode about World War II, and otherwise fairly unmemorable. The list and then his comments felt like he was screaming for attention.

Thanks! Salt was one of the things I wasn't measuring by weight but I guess its easy to do so and the literal way to exercise the most control.

For health reasons (recommended by doctor), both my husband and I were trying to lower our sodium intake, and baking bread was one of the only ways for us to enjoy bread while controlling sodium because there are very few lower sodium alternatives.
