Massive and energized crowd in Seattle says #HandsOff Democracy on a sunny Saturday. Who did an accurate crowd count? Easily 30,000 “pissed but peaceful” patriots.

Anyone have a link to a livestream for Seattle #HandsOff rally?
My message to those that aim to sow distrust in science & healthcare: You picked the wrong group to dismiss and discount. We do not yield to misinformation and lies! #standupforscience2025 @sufsseattle.bsky.social @standupforscience.bsky.social
These are awesome. Would love to see similar pics when rally was at its peak to measure crowd size. Estimated size: 2,000-5,000. Anyone catch that or have official numbers?

So heartening to see a few thousand scientists, grad students, healthcare workers, support staff, and members of the public #standupforscience at the Seattle rally. The message - Science is for everyone - rang loud and clear. And so many great signs…
The crowd is swelling as Seattle stands up for science. @govbobferguson.bsky.social just stopped by. Fired NOAA researcher, censored mathematician, and climate scientists are showing why science is for everyone! #standupforscience2025
People are standing up for science in Seattle. Just about to get started. #standupforscience2025
Keep it up! #standupforscience is trending - worldwide. See you soon at Stand Up for Science in Seattle. #standupforscience2025
Today @sciencewriters.org announced the planned conference in Pittsburgh is without a home after University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon backed out of their commitment to host and withdrew financial support for #SciWri2025. No reason for this about face given. www.nasw.org/article/scie...
Wow. 😮 That’s impressive!
Hi Hunter. Just saw the call. Did I miss the journalist boat? I’m a science and climate freelance journalist in Seattle.
Oh boy. Not liking this trend.
“We could get serious about mandatory testing of cows, milk and farmworkers and about isolating infected cattle herds — as we already do for birds and pigs.” www.nytimes.com/2024/11/29/o...
Glad this is official. A great solution to strengthen two great news orgs. Support if you can.
This is a great list of books to calm the nerves and soothe the soul.
Ok, for all the journalists out there who’ve seen Wicked the movie, what were the chillingly prescient moments that struck you? (I need to see it again - and take notes.)
Seeing the Northern Lights in my front yard last spring.
Just went through this with my dad. His old hearing aids weren’t cutting it and he thought he was just going to have to suffer in silence. But I string-armed him into getting custom made devices that have a tighter fit and can be “turned up” more than off the shelf models. Now, he loves them!
Yes, this.
I think we (the world) must create market conditions and mechanisms that will make reaching climate finance targets not just achievable but economically advantageous. How we do that is another question. But what about prioritizing decarbonization using an abundance model?
Yes, please.
I was just saying that some enterprising podcaster needs to re-interview Rogan’s guests. So, I ❤️ this!
So sad that this is necessary in the US. But it is. Safety and security are top issues now.
If only we could get them to come to Seattle…🤣
Here's a Starter Pack of NW science folks, but you can suggest others.

Whew! Glad we’re not losing @hakaimagazine.com. Can’t wait to see how this partnership evolves.
Why is the Arctic Ocean getting louder? Never thought of the ocean soundscape as another way to measure climate change. What a great event, @nswa.bsky.social and @jrmorber.bsky.social. Thanks, @townhallseattle.bsky.social. Such fascinating fish factoids. Read this book!
A mountainous moment of Zen. (Mt. Rainier with fresh snow on Oct. 29.) Cu
Highlight of the week: @lynnepeeps.bsky.social book launch at Town Hall Seattle. P.S. I feel vindicated for having low light levels in my house at night and a lot of natural light during the day - keeping my circadian rhythms in sync. Now, go buy The Inner Clock. Time’s a tickin’.
Whelp, we overwhelmed the bar for our NW Science Writers happy hour with @ferrisjabr.bsky.social and 25 members. So fascinating learning about how Emily Dickinson and Virginia Woolf influenced the lyrical writing of his new book, Becoming Earth: How Our Planet Came to Life.
7 people stand in a semi-circle outside Town Hall Seattle. Among them is Zoe Schlanger, author of "The Light Eaters" a science book about botany. The group gathered because of the Northwest Science Writers Assn. nwscience.org
Whoop. NW Science writers, nonprofit, took author @zoeschlanger.bsky.social and moderator @brookejarvis.bsky.social out after a Town Hall event. Join www.nwscience.org to get to do this with other authors.
Gratitude to both of them for sharing insider info about publishing.
