The first issue of Whole Fanzine Catalog (1978) ends with an article to help aspiring zine makers understand the labor & cost involved. He breaks it down step by step & concludes, "You can count on a 24 page fanzine of 200 copies to take about 50 hours to produce." fanac.org/fanzines/Who...

Starting some research at the Schwules Museum (www.schwulesmuseum.de) while I’m in Berlin, and it’s fitting to see them storing old magazines in boxes from Esselte, the stationery company that had acquired Letraset.

Long-time atheist here, but I gotta say the Jesuit-high-schooler side of me is really itching to see some high-profile excommunication drama go down. The mess! 😍

dyslexia-friendly/‘hyperlegible’ fonts are a marketing gimmick, not a meaningful solution for accessibility

kids should be able to read cursive because it enables them to read old documents among other things. When done consistently it’s also a more economical form of writing. I don’t know why people are so mad about this.

The show I won't name because I don't want to feed the SEO results cannot be watched ethically.

The author actively uses her resources to harm trans people, pushing for legislation that makes their lives far, far more difficult.

Human decency is worth more than a tv show.

Pink Mince 16: Letrasex

A lot of issues have touched on the topic, of course, but this was the big one: www.pinkmince.com/2019/11/pink...

I was really excited to discover that publishing more of Pink Mince can count toward the PhD I’m about to start at the University of Reading. My research started with my zine, and it should remain a great way to reach other people with interest in and history with my topic.

But if they paid you they couldn’t claim zine-y street cred!

Love this kind of science. Also “The squeal of peeling tape, explained” feels like the title of a banger poem

Honestly, the process must be even more intensely scrutinized by lawyers than font naming

Incredible, but I'm also concerned about the sanitary situation of that keyboard to his right

I know that I’m biased but I honestly think Ringold Clarendon would have been a stronger choice here. bijoutype.com/typefaces/ri...

Oh, if we’re doing culty movies:
• Hairspray (original)
• Paris Is Burning
• Wet Hot American Summer
• The Living End
• Airplane!

I saw Nile Rogers a couple of years ago, and his set was simply a non-stop roster of mind-blowing hits. It was actually insulting that he was an opening act playing to a half-empty arena waiting for Duran Duran.

The Welliver set-up at Hand &
Eye was my first exposure to this incredible hack. It blew my mind to think the keyboard and rolls of paper tape would turn out to be the obsolete parts of the Monotype system.

I’m genuinely more patriotic about American bacon than I am about America itself. (That’s a low bar, granted.)
