The latest episodes are sufficient to clarify that when Hegseth rages about "woke" thought and DEI, this is the equivalent of using the n-word. He uses it to ground the dismissal of men and women who earned their positions on peer-reviewed merit. Because of their skin color.

Favorite books about women's history? Any time period, any geographic location. It's for a thing

Thank you! It came out in April of 2020 so missed the book tour and academic reviews. I've been trying to play catch up w it ever since. Sincerely appreciate that you like it!!

Margaret is head of the space division at the Smithsonian and is an excellent scholar. She did oral histories with the women and really great research on it all. Hope you enjoy it.

Loving seeing all of these and going to humbly add my own. I following these women pilots from the 1920s, thru WWII, then the final 1/3 of the book is postwar including their fight to be recognized as veterans in the 1970s. Really try to weave 20th century realities thru their story.

The better book on the Mercury 13 is Margaret Weitekamp's "Right Stuff, Wrong Sex."

I will say as an author nothing makes me happier than seeing a marked up, dog eared copy of my book. It means someone really read it and engaged w it. Such a compliment to the writer, really.

I learned today that there’s a copy of the script of the episode of The Simpsons where Nelson knocks over the Sunsphere in Knoxville Tennessee in the (still standing) Sunsphere in Knoxville Tennessee.

Thanks for highlighting this. I was in grad school at UT when she was there and a grad assistant for big history classes. Her players were there in the front row every class- and bball staff would peak in our class window regularly to make sure they were. She has high standards and they knew it!
