Everyone wanted to invade Afghanistan. Pure vengeful bloodthirst.
Iraq took persuasion in the form of naked lies from the politicians, who were the only ones who really wanted to go in.
Iran? Both political leaderships want it, but they know it can't be sold to the public so aren't trying.

Getting jaded and joyless as you grow older is a decision. You can be dismissive about the new, or you can choose to resist the calcification in your brain and put in the effort to delight in it.
All the best old people resisted, remaining engaged and interested with the new for its own sake.

Why do we have developers making stupid AI bullshit nobody wants but still no ability to edit posts to fix typos?

You're right, and that makes it even worse.
Burnt french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon... green beans? Potatoes? Strawberries?!
As an author, I feel this.

Our humanity is flourishing imperfection.
Not to be all political, but remember how Reagan lost his marbles completely, and his White House staff went on to Weekend at Bernies' him until his term was up? How they, to this day, pretend he was only diagnosed with Alzheimer's after leaving office?
Came to mind today.
Realising this is now a deep cut makes me feel old.

In TEWWBAD, the mentor of the protagonist encourages her to read 'too adult' books, then gives her free reign over the library if she promises to show whatever she wants to read and to listen if told to wait.
"Reading what you’re not supposed to is a rite of passage for anyone with a decent mind."
Look, I read Fifty Shades when it was popular in 2012. I was 13. I believe my main takeaway at the time was how terrible the quality of the prose was. Kids will always get their hands on this stuff, and will mostly be fine.
X just suspended an account for telling US soldiers,
