David Byrne, band, and vocalists/dancers, all in identical orange outfits, in choreographed movement around a stage, surrounded by a projection of the interior of his modest and colourful NYC apartment. They appear tiny next to the furniture and shelves of books and windows looking out onto the city skyline.
Joined good friends and friendly strangers at an evening with David Byrne and band, a bunch of joyful and insanely talent humans who really know how to put on a show. What a delight in these times.

Interview blurb reading: What’s your favourite “Yukon term” or expression? The term skookum is certainly one I use all the time, with a few different meanings. It can describe an individual. It can describe an article of clothing or a tool. If your hammer breaks, obviously it wasn’t skookum. I didn’t even know it was a Yukon-specific term when I grew up. I had just started saying it down south and had to be asked about it.
This is from a recent interview with our new Premier, who apparently thinks “skookum” is only used in the Yukon. I know he makes a big deal about being born and raised here, but apparently he has also never left the territory? 😂

Battered dumpster, lid slightly ajar, in a snowy alley against a mustard yellow stucco building wall with graffiti cartoon frog and chaotic electrical/wiring boxes at the building corner. Two ravens stand on the dumpster lid and one stands at the edge of the building roof above. Sky is blue with mixed cloud and low-angle winter sun.
Northern album drop.

I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is

It's not just the women and girls we know of. It's all their future work, and everything they could have been, and how we build structures that shelter their abusers. It's how a man's future has always been worth more than my past, present, and future combined.

Documentary Heritage Communities Program - Canada.ca
And then there were none. The Carney government has officially axed the Documentary Heritage Communities Program, the only federal funding for community archival programs. A drop in the bucket of the federal budget, but hugely influential for local archival and documentation projects. Sigh.

Search | Heritage GuideHeritage Guide
Search thousands of Canadian heritage sites.
Fantastic news! It appears that an individual has used a program to download the data from the historic places register and created a new site with it! If all the data is accurate, this will become a valuable site for researchers across the country.

A long, snow-topped mountain reflected in a patch of open water at the edge of a mostly frozen lake. Blue skies and partial white cloud above.
Foreground of snow and frost-covered, leafless trees in front of taller evergreen trees and filtered sun through winter sky of partial cloud cover.
Celebrating Imbolc and St. Brigid by catching absolutely no fish but having a very nice walk. May this day start a season of strength and light.

A Video Game Lets You Take Back Looted Artifacts
An indie game studio in South Africa has developed a heist adventure that reframes play, memory, and repatriation.
In a new video game, players can join a heist crew to take back looted African artifacts from museums, but there’s even more at stake: Users must learn musical rhythms, consult elders, and participate in ceremonies to reactivate the social meaning of these objects.

"The co-payment model is a scaled-back edition of the previous Conservative government’s failed attempt in 2012 to cut health care for refugee claimants from the “designated countries of origin” that Ottawa considered safe."
