When Jungkook had raised the question of running, when they’d spoken two days ago about him being chased through the forest to help Jungkook get some of the restless energy out, he’d expected it to be fun and games. He hadn’t expected Jungkook to be serious about it. And then he’s panting, breath ragged and painful with the crisp winter air, sweat freezing against his skin, muscles aching as he’s running at a dead sprint through the forest. Behind him, he can hear the low growl of the werewolf on his heels. So much for fun. He knows, logically, that Jungkook can’t hurt him. He’s courting, the old laws prevent him from hurting Yoongi in any real way. But he also lost his sneakers nearly an hour ago after a short stint huddled in a low bundle of bushes before Jungkook found him, crashing into the undergrowth and sending Yoongi back to running. He’s actually surprised he managed to last as long as he did, especially when he knows how big Jungkook is as a wolf. His wolf form is big, sure, Yoongi could probably ride him like a pony, but his true form when standing straight is towering, thickly muscled and covered in dark fur, a monstrous shadow tracking him through the forest. The snows have started to get more frequent, finally starting to stick as January approaches, and it crunches beneath Yoongi’s now bare feet as he gets further into the deep forest. For a decade he’s wandered the tall oak and red pine, the deep grove that holds his ancient and secret ginkgo tree. The low swells of wide-leaved ferns hide brambles he would have normally avoided, but he’s run for so long he’s turned himself around, herded by Jungkook’s rare appearances. He crashes through a sharp pile of dead thorny bramble and finds himself tumbling ass over teakettle down a short slope into an open clearing.

Blood streaks the fresh snowfall that he’s tumbled through, the gentle moss and grass beneath him cushioning some of the damage. There were new tears in his jeans and his sweater is sticky with sweat, the long coat he’d pulled on thankfully protecting his softest bits from the bulk of the bramble he’d hit, just the impact to the forest floor finally stopping their chase short. It takes him maybe too long to get up, the wind knocked out of him, because Jungkook’s hulking form comes loping into the clearing behind him, not even trying to pretend he’s the big bad wolf chasing after his prey. He’s very much the concerned puppy who just saw Yoongi take a hell of a tumble.

His breath fogs as he huffs once, big golden eyes glittering with an inhuman intelligence. His true form retained his mind, nothing of the well-meaning but feral wolf that stalked around his garden at night. At his full height, standing at the edge of the clearing and scenting the air before trudging towards Yoongi, he has to be seven feet tall. “I’m fine,” Yoongi pants, his own breath coming out in ragged clouds. Despite the assurance Jungkook still looms over him, massive clawed hands, strong enough to crush bone, settle on either side of Yoongi’s still crumpled body. His nose is wet and a little cold as it presses behind Yoongi’s ear, into his sweat-damp hair, down his back, snuffling at him. “I thought you wanted prey,” Yoongi chuckles, catching his breath beneath the werewolf. One of Jungkook’s big paws rolls him onto his back, one claw hooking in the front of his jeans, lifting to pull Yoongi’s hips nearly airborne before the fabric gives and shreds. “I did, and I caught it,” Jungkook provides, a deep bassy growl of a voice, “Now I can have my reward.”
