If you haven’t seen ‘Hannibal’ or ‘Pushing Daisies’ but love ‘Amélie’ and ‘The City of Lost Children’, have I got a movie for you…

The more you know about something, the less you are inclined to like it. Religion and American History for sure.
It takes 3 episodes, but ‘Beef’ S2 gets weird.
What made you an atheist?
Catechism.
‘Dust Bunny’ is Bryan Fuller’s imagination unleashed. It’s a vivid, surreal dark fairytale I have to watch in regulated chunks because it’s so much to take in. Sigourney Weaver seems to be having an absolute blast, Sophie Sloan is an incredibly gifted child actor, and Mads is Mads.

My good friend and fellow recovering Catholic Bill Holland hosts a podcast about movies deemed blasphemous by The Church. This week is one of my favorites, ‘The Little Hours’ starring and produced by Aubrey Plaza!

Moby is the most prankable person.
ADHD: It’s like ideas and motivation are different gears. The ideas one is spinning out of control, and the motivation one clunks along until they match up. Absolutely no way of knowing when.
You have your Psychic TVs, and Coils, a bevy of Swans… ADULT.s are in the room, and there are Legendary Pink Dots bouncing all over. Whatever this genre is called, The Eccentronic Research Council is over here doing this:

The 90s were weird. Bands like Curve were tapped directly into the zeitgeist and doing such interesting things, while absolute toilet water bands like Oasis and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were selling tens of millions of records.
The Legendary Pink Dots/Skinny Puppy collaboration The Tear Garden is playing a rare show in Chicago this September. Looking into train tickets right now.

If you’re watching ‘Rooster’ on HBO, Steve Carell’s character confirms my thesis that electric bike owners are either young teens or people in their 50s with bad knees.
One of the answers at Pop Culture Trivia at Bowlero tonight was Ellen Ripley. EVERYONE looked at me. Yes, I have a Weyland-Yutani sticker on my electric bike parked outside.

I have motion sensitive lamps and Winston wears a bell around his neck. Still, sometimes he completely sneaks up right next to my face and quacks.

Just driving to Irish Hills because The Moth Story Hour is on at 11AM. Stop at Zingerman’s for a gourmet chocolate bar and whitefish salad sandwich.
The convenience of podcasts is nice, but I kinda miss driving with no specific destination just to listen to Wiretap, Car Talk, and This American Life on NPR weekend mornings.
I haven’t thought about Pan Sonic in years. Good call!
A Place to Bury Strangers is up there. Last time I saw them they came out into the middle of the audience with a mobile rig that of course included a fog machine and strobe.
It’s almost impossible to describe the visceral physicality of a Sunn O))) concert, but Jesse does a pretty good job. It’s meditative and not violent, but the air being pushed from the amps will rearrange your internal organs, one chord at a time.

I always wanted to be a magazine editor, but never wanted to monetize Burnlab. I’ve written for design and culture blogs plenty, but was never good at hitting word counts or deadlines. This interview with Chris Ryan reawakened my interest. Our life paths are eerily similar. I don’t know.
Dan Stevens could easily have a comfortable career as a leading man in romcoms, but has made choices to be weird. I love him for that.

I’m watching ‘Euphoria’ like Andy Greenwald: never seen a frame of the show before, and jumping right into season 3. I don’t think it matters. Entertaining! Zendaya gets into some crazy situations… drug mule, driving an Uber while listening to the Bible audiobook…
The ‘DTF St. Louis’ finale was fine. What I really want is an anthology series starring Joy Sunday and Richard Jenkins solving all kinds of odd crimes.
Led Zeppelin were the biggest band in the world in the 70s, but iconoclasts, and did everything by their own rules. The total autonomy Page had over their creative output vs record execs is inspiring. Even today, few bands have as much control over their work at such a scale. *Taylor Swift maybe.
The new Led Zeppelin documentary on Netflix is incredible. I read ‘Hammer of the Gods’ when I was 12. This has so much more background and tons of unseen footage. Present day Page, Plant, and Jones are so cool and nice and enthusiastic, and it’s beautifully paced and edited

Cannavale: I couldn’t enlist. My eyes.
Hawke: What’s the matter? They open?
