Ha! That sounds fun! I haven't read a lot of memoirs, but I enjoyed the ones I have.

APRIL EDITING, DAY 22: Another long day of balancing 'I need to hint this enough that readers pick up on it' and 'jfc WHAT READERS. WHO CARES'
Sorry I'm not funny tonight, I've been busting my ass trying to make up for taking time off, and I can TASTE the end of content editing...
It's funny how I've taken such pains to tie the fic as closely as possible to the movie, yet so much of the film has been totally overtaken in my mind by the fic. I keep stumbling on canonical gestures and dialogue I forgot existed (usually when I try to cut them out).
My notes are full of jokes, but they're all plot-related, so I can't copy any of them for you here! Well, jokes and paragraphs of RAILING AT THE MALE LEAD'S POOR CHOICES
Chapter 26 is a Male Lead POV chapter, and one of his longest. It's probably not good to marinate in his torturous thought processes this long, but -- too late now! We're only 1/3 of the way through!
I'm shocked I have the number of clarifying notes I do have; I know from past experience how complicated explaining things to readers can get, but I didn't think I'd actually been paying attention!
Started editing Chapter 26 and, while I only worked through a few punchlist items, I line-edited ten pages, which included some thorny conversations.
APRIL EDITING, DAY 22: Another long day of balancing 'I need to hint this enough that readers pick up on it' and 'jfc WHAT READERS. WHO CARES'
Hey, I just reorganised it two months ago! That's pretty good for a To Read pile!
This one's actually been sitting on my shelf since grad school, but this sentence is hilarious. I might have to move it to the top of my slightly-less-fossilised bedside To Read pile.
Pick up the nearest book, turn to p. 42, and post the second sentence:
'Nor had Solomon anything better to propose; he muttered that he would have to rest content with seeing the infidel burn, though he had hoped to obtain a more satisfying mode of revenge.'
The Long Ships, Frans G. Bengtsson 1954
Going to the ball game in SF tomorrow (for research purposes, of course); come buy me a drink!
I am both duly impressed and a hair concerned. Feel like I should Fedex you some Jell-O shots or something
JEEEEEZUS you're going through it. I hope it's just a 24h bug! :( Feel better!
APRIL EDITING, DAY 22: Had to take several days off. Not just to rest my hands, but I was also a little under the weather. But we're back and we blew through ALL of Chapter 25!
Finally, I learned that what I'm currently doing is called 'content editing.' Also, that I probably don't know how to use hyphens after all. Thanks, Grammar YouTube.
This point in the movie is where the action shifted to a non-POV character, so I have notes for a lot of scenes I totally cut. Including some truly silly cutaways. I long to livetweet this sucker for you guys, but I might put you off reading this.
It remains to be seen whether they are THORNY notes. Hopefully not, as the plot is in the process of unwinding at this point (as a reminder, there are 28 chapters total).
Unfortunately, Chapter 26 is next, and it is the last of the Big Guys; 27 is also longish and dramatic, but I don't have nearly as many notes for it.
This chapter also has one of my favourite dumb speaking extra jokes. I regret that I will never be able to revisit the saga of Stag and his pink bike.
Although this chapter was two complex dialogues in a trenchcoat, I managed to plug in some important clarifying points in the first one ('villains explain the plot to each other'), and line-edited everything else.

An entire lifetime of being a nobody on the internet, but finally... I have Arrived
we all know I have no life, so:
Hey, after what it did for you I'll believe it does ANYTHING
I know! Watch the movie and list it used! Everyone does it! I've bought plenty of used Blu-Rays! Why make yourself into a liar alskdflskdjfdf
Native gardeners just have better vibes, glad to see you upholding the tradition
No, it was unopened when I bought it! But after I paid he opened it! YOU KNOW. COMPLETELY NORMAL BEHAVIOUR. At least he refunded me right away, but ugh. It was $20 cheaper than the next-cheapest of the same Blu-Ray...
lmao I love it, classy YET sassy
