New preprint! ✨ Do you and your partner have made-up words ("eggy" to mean awkward)? Do you and your bestie have an anecdote you love to tell together (that time one of you tripped over an acorn)? Do you and your closest colleague have a cherished ritual (weekly lunch at "the usual spot")? 🧵

New paper out in Social Psychological and Personality Science with @mohammadatari.bsky.social!
We ask: How does moral diversity shape communities’ responses to norm violations? Across 7 studies (N = 235k+), we find a surprisingly consistent pattern.

In an interesting #SPSP2026 talk, @asmiley.bsky.social presented work suggesting that the proportion of out-partisans at one’s church had a curvilinear association with affective polarization—politically balanced churches showed the lowest rates of affective polarization.
In an interesting #SPSP2026 talk, @abdoe.bsky.social presented data showing that assigning participants to watch a debate (versus an informational video, or no video) on rent control made them significantly more intellectually humble.
Thanks so much for coming and for sharing!

The final Calvin and Hobbes, which appeared in papers 30 years ago today.
So thrilled to see this paper in print at PSPR—I propose a new theoretical model of self-protection motivation that reimagines how people might think, feel, and act when navigating self-threats. I enjoy this sort of theoretical work & excited to share it!

✨New preprint! Why do people express outrage online? In 4 studies we develop a taxonomy of online outrage motives, test what motives people report, what they infer for in- vs. out-partisans, and how motive inferences shape downstream intergroup consequences. Led by @felix-chenwei.bsky.social 🧵👇

New preprint! We developed new measurement tools to examine moralization in ~2B Twitter/X & Reddit posts and ~5M traditional media texts.
Key finding: moralization increased markedly on social media from 2013-2021; more than traditional media; associated with multiple user dynamics
