me when someone cites the deep magic to me even though I was there when it was written: holy shit, for real? I don't remember that part at all

Detail from an illuminated manuscript showing a man falling backwards when encountering a huge stingray.
🎏 They said chances of being attacked on land by a stingray was zero!
From Macclesfield Psalter, England, c. 1330-1340, Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum, MS 1-2005, fol. 68r.

Oh to be a little Tardigrade walking across a microscope slide. 🫧🐻🧪
In the top panel, Principal Skinner is surrounded by piles of books and is thinking to himself "Do I have too many books?" In the bottom panel, Principal Skinner has reached a conclusion - "No, it's the amount of shelving in my house that's wrong"
OK "god bless america" and then naming every country in the americas from south to north is absolute king shit
An image showing 3 differently colored isopod enamel pins arranged in a stack on my fingers. From top to bottom: dark brown and yellow, black and white, and orange and light orange.
A photo of a colorful teal and green peacock mantis shrimp enamel pin with red legs, orange stripes along the body, and dark blue markings. It is photographed against a dark purple amethyst crystal.
A photo of an enamel pin featuring 3 garden eels hanging out together. Two of the eels are a light green with black spots, while the larger eel behind them is orange with white stripes. They are photographed on a dark purple amethyst crystal.
new pins are now available in my shop! 🦐

Reshares appreciated! ❤️
I don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.
Congrats!! I just love Olivia Waite and The Everlasting was truly magical. I'm sending this article to all my friends to encourage them to read The Everlasting.
Hildegard von Blingin' just released a new song!

OF THE EMPIRE We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.
Ever relevant, this poem by Mary Oliver, especially today.
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.
And trans lives are grounded in reality.
We see y'all. No matter what.

Several teachers fled with a student and hid in the back of a pick-up.
They were 'terrified of being found. They weren’t sure what was going on. ICE, an attack on the school, they didn’t know.'”

ICE out of our schools! Wednesday, November 5 6:30PM Northcenter Town Square, 4100 N Damen join us to protect ourschools and communities from ICE attacks. Our educators and children deserve to be safe!
Rally to protest the teacher violently taken by federal agents at a private daycare this morning on Addison near Western.
Raids inside day cares had been off limits until this year, when, on his first day in office, President Donald Trump removed that protection.
The arrest reportedly took place in front of children.

this morning, ICE went into a Spanish language immersion daycare and took a teacher from the building in front of screaming and crying kids and parents at dropoff and the daycare had to shut down for the day (near Lane Tech, where they were yesterday). Really hoping today's "theme" is not "daycare."
Just finished The Everlasting by @alixeharrow.bsky.social and am just absolutely feral about it. I want it noted that Hen is the real MVP, thank you.
when we win the masked agents raid our neighborhoods. what do they cover up? (yesterday) is their promise & their charge. on 75th and South Shore they ram down our doors using (yesterday). they toss canisters of (yesterday) into our children’s lullabies. why? my people, we carry (today) & (tomorrow) in twin holsters. we plant (today) & (tomorrow) in our gardens. every day there are more sprouts. let it be known: Chicago will never cower. (yesterday) already died. (yesterday) is dying. (yesterday) will die again. there is no future in (yesterday). the agents in our neighborhoods hide their faces because they are losing. because they lost. when we win, there will be whistles from the gulls circling Lake Michigan. let them sing it: Chicago is a city of (today) & (tomorrow). Chicago is the future.
“Chicago is the future.“

Karina Villa protecting her constituents by literally running ICE off the streets in West Chicago and yelling to residents to stay inside their homes.
the Federation itself as a concept is so funny because the founding members are the Vulcans, who have been friends with humanity for years but don't seem to actually like them all that much, instead regarding them with a sort of perverse fascination usually reserved for virology labs the Andorians, who were fighting the Vulcans for like a hundred years the Tellarites, who don't like any of these people and whose cultural trait is arguing, and humans, whom nobody knew existed until last century when they shot themselves into space on a heavily modified nuke, invented world peace and won a fight with the nearest imperial superpower like imagine you're the Romulan Empire and those weird monkeys who've barely figured out interstellar travel show up on your doorstep in the equivalent of a shipping container with missiles strapped to it, kick your ass in front of everybody, and then start a friendship club with 3 of your neighbors who all hated each others' guys until like a year ago. now I understand why every Romulan on the show is so angry

"They call us now, / before they drop the bombs."
We're beginning Week 2 of #PoemADayJuly with "Running Orders" by Lena Khalaf Tuffaha and, yes, this poem is so much and too much and, because of that so much and too much, very worthy of conversation.

hi, cis folks!
the GOP put the all-ages trans medicaid ban back in the budget, despite it being struck. they did it to force dems to challenge it on the floor.
if you've been paying attention, you know dems need to hear you want them to actually stand up to the GOP. contact info at reps.fyi 🧵
Fuck these fascists. Protect trans kids.
tumblr user nitewrighter posts: Me: I don’t get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I’m like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now? The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it’s the fascism. You’re completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you’re also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you’re going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances. A Chicago Pope implies the existence of an MLA Pope and APA Pope
This confirms the Chicago style pope is superior to the Italian style pope. It's the thicker crust.
