“I was taught that food is the centerpiece of life: whether you are gathered around the supper table at night, when you gather as a family or as a community, from celebrations to ceremonies, even in times of loss, there is food.”

UNPFII meets in NYC until May 01, 2026.
After sunset, and the vast dome of sky shimmers. There's a sliver of moon. Slowly, stars begin to pop open. In a small hollow on the cliff I find shelter from the cold east wind, watch the snakeskin sea flex, and soak up the scent of myrtle which has overwritten even the tang of salt and stone.
"Launching a climate-focused NGO in Kuwait was not without risk. The nation has restrictive legislation that limits the right to form and join civil society organizations … Four years after its launch, AlManakh now works with over 30 partners in Kuwait, including the World Health Organization."

"’Reading real books and writing on real paper, and counting with real numbers on real paper, is much better if you want kids to get the knowledge they need,’ argues Forsell.”
Morales Blanco "grew up in a family of fishermen along the banks of the Magdalena River in the Afro-Colombian community of Puerto Wilches. ‘We had nothing but the river – she was like a mother who took care of me,’ she said.”

Black and white landscape photo with desert scrub in the foreground, low hills in the distance, and a dramatic cloud-streaked sky.
Wishing for rain, settling for the view. Dramatic desert sky above an alluvial plain and Pliocene erosional remnant hills; a rift-bounding range of Precambrian metamorphic rocks in the far distance.
Shot on Ilford Delta 100 pro with a Bronica GS-1 Medium Format camera. Home dev using ID-11 (usually use DD-X but wanted to see delta 100 in id-11) This black and while photo shows a golden doodle, Miss Ruby Red Puppington posing in the sun on a warm spring day in the high desert of the Owyhee Canyonlands. she's the cutest dog ever. obviously.
Spent yesterday in the Owyhee Canyonlands, and after much effort and lugging 20lbs of medium format camera gear up a narrow canyon, I was able to capture a rare photo of a desert doodle in its natural habitat. #film #Oregon #Idaho #desert #canyon #Photography

"I don’t necessarily like taking photos of people smiling. I just really want to show who the person is."

Thinking back to one of my favourite places: Llewellyn Glacier, British Columbia, here seen from the summit of a nunatak (island of rock). Atlin Lake is visible in the distance.
When I think about public engagement & science communication, *this* is the kind of work I most admire.
“… the energy of the planning committee was palpable and contagious. They are committed, and it’s easy to see why.”
Okay. This was good.

Maybe we call it the “smart bomb initiative.” Precision guided books and advanced graphite pencils for maximum collateral damage. Only the most active and classroom-focused professional guidance systems (teachers) will be utilized.
“More than 60 people had signed up to collect a fresh bee colony … Coté has held this event – affectionately called 'the running of the bees' – for the past 20 years in various locations, including Bryant Park and Columbus Circle.”
“The Gleaners and I” (by Agnes Varda). Wonderfully self-reflective. Subaltern, critical of capital, legal personhood, foregrounds resilience of folk traditions, and equates sustenance with values and artistic production. Lovely film.
Renee "Wasson" Dillard?
Maybe start with a basket? Various other sources says she does mats … but I would guess this is a very advanced skill!

Such a wonderful understatement from “the Press.” Thank you so much for taking a risk (e.g., believing in trees) and helping to bring this masterpiece to a broader audience!
Re-posting this as art ... and for no other reason 😉

Flowers are "revolutionaries" and transform relationships through cooperation (e.g. pollination). “This is cooperation mediated by aesthetic experiences. And it’s not just through aroma, it’s also through colors, shapes, even the electric field around a specific flower.”
