I’ve download this Boonwurrung calendar and it’s a fabulous resource for all of us in Melbourne to slow down, pay attention and connect to the land where we live.

It’s steaming 45 Degrees in Naarm today, the day after Invasion Day. First Nations people are disproportionately reflected in the numbers of people inadequately housed, due to dispossession, racism, intergenerational trauma, etc. Thinking of those sleeping rough and without aircon in this heat 💔

A gay man from a country town once showed me the newspaper column of mine he'd kept in his wallet since (pre-socials) school; it said he was not alone & would find his people. Social media can be a lifeline for kids who're bullied, live in abusive home, or whose hobbies/interests are anti-anxiety.

I’m looking forward to Sonia & Sunny because I loved the author’s last novel, and I’ve read it’s a masterpiece!

It’s a satire staring an asexual malacologist in modern day Ukraine who is trying to save snail species on the brink of extinction amidst the war, which she funds by being part of the “romance tour” trade where foreigners take guided tours of Ukraine in hopes of finding docile brides. It’s spot on!

This one wasn’t my cup of tea. The characters were all so unlikeable!

I loved the philosophical conversations she had with locals! It wasn’t a page turner, more if a slow paced, thought-providing novel, but it is one of my favourites on the Booker long-list this year.

Home Is Where The Art Is | Port Phillip Library Service

This looks like a lovely event showcasing the art of people who have experienced or are experiencing homelessness.

What a great event last week at the Wheeler Centre! Unfortunately the narrative is still largely on building housing, because we are in such a deep housing crisis, but I’m hopeful that Sacred Heart is trying to engage stakeholders in systemic change to prevent homelessness before it starts.

Bill McKibben on Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring” Her reporting was quickly attacked by the industry she called into question, setting the playbook for companies that profited from tobacco, opioids, and fossil fuels.

“Silent Spring,” which exposed the dangers of DDT and other pesticides, was powerful enough to activate emotions, never florid, and willing to use the tropes of pastoral Americana for all they were worth. Bill McKibben reflects on Rachel Carson’s classic.

I recently visited the Great Barrier Reef for the first time. I fell in love with the giant clams! And was sad to see so much broken coral. I was told it was due to cyclone damage. Is that usual on reefs or due to climate change? Photos from Upolu Reef

I'm genuinely SO excited about the new ocean map that will be at the heart of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich when this hall reopens on June 7th. It's an unusual ocean-focussed map with so much detail, and it's just brilliant. 🌊🌊 Here's a sneak peak.
