Nahhh, what’s most important is whether or not you like your work. We’ve been conditioned to care too much about the approval of an audience when it comes to creative work, and the truth is we have to remind ourselves that we make our art for us ~ 💖

My favorite go-to for this is adding a white outline around the character, something stylized like that 💞

I just said this to a friend, but I want all artists to know this:

"Your art will always be good. It's not slop! It's made with love and care. That speaks volumes! Doesn't matter if it's not "professional" quality. What matters is that you made it. That's what makes it really good."

Sometimes narratives will reward characters by giving them the thing they want after they endured the trials and tribulations of what they need.

And sometimes, the characters wants and needs are incongruent; the want either becomes obsolete or it evolves.

And let’s not forget character want vs need.

Characters will always have wants. It’s the need that their narrative imposes on them that challenges them to grow and develop.

After all, we in our own world don’t get to choose our circumstance - we don’t get to pack up and jump worlds. We have to make the best of where we are at, of what we have, with the people we surround ourselves.

IOW, personally, an ending where they leave the circus wouldn’t feel… satisfying.

Not saying that the theories are not worthwhile, or that they’re somehow wrong. They have been built from actual concrete indications that there IS a real world our cast had originated from.

I’m saying, maybe the mechanism of returning to the real world is not the central goal of the narrative.

As much as I love all the theories surrounding the ‘how’ anyone enters the circus- and the subsequent theories around leaving- I’m finding myself more and more of the thinking that maybe leaving isn’t actually the point. That we aren’t going to get that answer, because that’s not the main message.
