with the announcement of Prove You’re Human I was thinking again about my time with 1000xRESIST which we covered on Abnormal Mapping in January of 2025. I still think this is one of the best episodes we’ve ever done and I’ve only grown fonder of the game since www.abnormalmapping.com/the-abnormal...

Thank you for reading and sharing, Joshua! 🙏🏾
"The radio man shares the story of the world’s end, at least according to a push notification from his astrology app"
Look, I think Marathon is a miracle. I’m continually astounded by how taut the design is, how many nuances it has, and how almost every element of playing it has sharp, thematic edges. So I’m finding the broader response to it kind of baffling.
I have a new story, "Kingmaker," out today from Strange Pilgrims! Unfortunately, the radio man has some things he's got to say (derogatory) 😤
i've been in a game about a group of folks who are stuck on the route of a long-dead tourism agency through realis and its thousand moons—the act of sharpening myself against this game has been one of my favorite tabletop experiences of the last year. can't wait to hold the moons in my own hands!
When you run a business cooperatively you understand exactly where the money goes, and realize how much money is wasted on unproductive bullshit from rich idiots. No market force is going to solve that. This system was not working before and it was always destined to break.
My politics, including Aftermath, all come downwind from Union organizing. Nothing is immediately clarifying as being underpaid for years only to get a sudden 12k pay bump and realizing they could have done that shit any time.
“Rowling has made it abundantly clear that she thinks attacking transgender people via the legal system is a worthwhile cause and a good use of her vast personal fortune…there’s no way to watch this show without supporting Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting…”
the two types of games are caffeine and weed. marathon? caffeine. tony hawk? weed. you might think death stranding is a weed game but it turns out it's caffeine
Hugo nominations close tomorrow at noon!
I'd be honoured for folks to consider my novella THE IRON BELOW REMEMBERS, or any of my short stories!
I published a story, "The Moon's Forest Burn All Your Life," in khōréō in 2025, and it sits alongside so much beautiful work—if you are looking for work to nominate for the Hugos, please consider these stories!
Just wanted to put this out there: if you’re reading and voting for awards, here's our incredible slate of stories (and essays 🙌) from this past year! We’re so proud of our authors and artists and we hope you consider their stellar work 🧡✨
“clown event still possible” put that in your pocket, I can already tell you that this is the key phrase of 2026
I've said it before: I genuinely consider it a moral imperative that people my age and up bang the drum about what the Internet used to be so those younger know that there's nothing inherent about what it is now. The Internet doesn't have to be this; its culture can and has belonged to people.
I'm plugging Scrivener again today. This is not a subscription program; you pay a one-time license fee. The software is installed on your computer, and you don't need to be online to use it. It's worth the $60 but discounts float around. They once generously gave ficwip one for our writers!
As we're coming up to the Hugo Awards nominations deadline, I'm reading a bunch of short stories (because I never remember to during the year 🤦🏼)
Toothpaste Feelings, by @sharangbiswas.bsky.social, is a really proper lovely tale and you should read (and nominate) it

ooooohhhhhh. yeah got it. this completely tracks (complimentary). i have to imagine any conversation involving a caves of qud dev is immediately richer and stranger than it would otherwise be.
Gonna hold on to this croissant metaphor for the rest of my creative life
Dear Rook,
I love you. If you’ve come this far, that’s all I can say. I love you and I love you and I love you, on battlefields, in shadows, in fading ink, on cold ice splashed with the blood of seals. In the rings of trees. In the wreckage of a planet crumbling to space..
perfect tides: station to station is not directly against AI and yet is the ultimate riposte to slop: an utterly lovely, human, funny, characterful game about writing and creativity and figuring out who you are that you should all play. it moved me, & every moment I spent with it felt so worthwhile
Firefly the television show is a A LOT worse than you remember
This is the best product review I’ve read: samhenri.gold/blog/2026031...
It doesn’t matter if you’re interested in the MacBook Neo or not; this is the kind of essay that makes you think about the potential of technology and the joys of exploration.
This was a very difficult decision for us as a small indie team. Please stand with us and @nogamesforgenocide.com ❤️ #indiedev #indiegames #gamedev #freepalestine
logging into marathon
marathon is a game with plenty of odds against it, both internally and externally. those same odds are manifested in its own nature, one permeated with hostility and carried over by figures designed to be threatened and expendable. my review for VGC:
i’ll be here when you’re ready, coffee 😇
okay, marathon has the damn juice. creepy, intense, funny. like if a game was an ear worm (and also it is an ear worm, the music is strange and delicious).
I have finally been reading Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera, and it is bonkers how every other page has one of the coolest fucking things I've ever read happening, what an absolute knockout book, I'd be envious if I wasn't just so happy about it
