We have openings for writers to review music, film and/or books. DM for more info!
It's a four game series, so still two to go!
I know one NL East team who took advantage of the Braves tonight :)
haha I haven't interviewed him, but that would definitely be quite a meta interview!
sometimes you have to punch the bully right back in the face
About it? I thought it was more like an expansion on the content of his podcast. Maybe that’s nitpicking haha.
thanks for the suggestion and the kind words! I'll definitely mull that possibility, it could be fun and hopefully useful to people.
I know of a few music book ones (mine is best, haha) but I'm not very versed in general book podcasts, I imagine there are a lot.
came out this past weekend as a Record Store Day release.
Listening to podcasts to make music to listen to podcasts to.
There are more than enough podcasts about music and not nearly enough music about podcasts
(now I'm remembering how the Wire played SY "Arc" in their invisible jukebox blindfold test and Lee & Thurston (understandably) didn't recognize it. which makes me remember that when they played Metal Machine Music, Lee not only guessed it, he correctly identified which side was playing)
Sonic Youth convinced Neil Young to collage live material on "Arc."
John Oswald collaged SY live material on "Diamond Seas."
There's only one conclusion:
A Neil Young collage of John Oswald live material must be in the works.
Working on my final BC column, it's still so fun to find & write about good experimental music. I'm super tempted to make this into a newsletter but I also could use the time it takes each month to devote to other things. Anyway just thinking out loud, will return to thinking quietly.
It was so much fun to talk w/you about your excellent book!
New episode of The Music Book Podcast, talking to @steve-bowie.bsky.social about his great bio of trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Cootie Williams, out now on @upmississippi.bsky.social themusicbookpodcast.buzzsprout.com/2120946/episodes/19032774-087-steve-bowie-on-cootie-williams
That is a wild box score.
The Orioles had one hit and zero runs with two outs in the ninth, two strikes on the batter. They now are in the 12th and have seven runs.
This is my 4/20
the Butera quick starter pull didn't work tonight. trying to remember if/when it has worked? haha.
I would actually take a 13-149 season for the Nationals if the 13 victories were against Atlanta
from rogerebert.com review
recent Matt Christensen instrumental guitar album is recommended if you like Loren Connors or "Dead Man"-era (is one album an era?) Neil Young. Also you should subscribe to Matt's Bandcamp cause there are so many great releases there. mattchristensensolo.bandcamp.com/album/guts
I think this movie is good and I urge you to see it, even if you can’t get the senior discount or go at 11am on a Monday.
I like strikeouts and homers but I do miss manufacturing runs and/or the extended rally (which still happens but not as much). I do love the new stats though, which tell a lot more about how well the players are playing outside of luck.
This is a new one. Someone subscribed to the newsletter using their work email address. Now their dumb AI assistant is replying to the emails like this. What a world we live in.
I saw a bunch of these still there later in the day. Super impressive but $$$$ of course.
batting average is less valued now. i'm torn on what I think of that (it makes sense b/c extra base hits are more valuable than singles, etc., but I grew up loving high-BA hitters....)
