And we know that the components (nucelotides) of a molecule now demonstrated to be self-replicating (RNA) form abiotically... increasing the odds (but of course not guaranteeing) that alien life may have some similarities in overall biochemistry.
All of these are probabilistic, and there could be life that doesn't fit any of this: silicon-based that evolved on surfaces or in clouds. But a) it would be even more rare, and b) we'd be even less clear about knowing it when we see it
I think there's a pretty strong inference to say likely carbon-based: it is the abundant element that can have complex chemistry. And a pretty strong inference to say liquid medium (biochemistry very hard in gas and solid). There are alternatives like methane, but they're not very good at dissolving

Fish form follows function. Thick body/tail=efficient thrust- like a launching rocket- good for filtering a wide area (top left). Small fins at all angles=moving in any direction- like a docking spacecraft- good for searching in nooks (bottom right). Webb, Amer Zool 1984.
Your baseball team is from a midsized city that punches well above its weight in all kinds of innovation and progress. Your arch-rival is from the nation's largest, most powerful city and always has an extremely well-funded team. Nearly 100 years ago, you traded your best player (Babe Ruth)
Is #geroscience and #longevity for everyone, or just for a few? Podcast on the ethics of it all, with @agingdoc.bsky.social and Carolyn Ringel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tedu...
Beautiful animal!
@lifebiosciences.bsky.social, founded by @davidsinclairphd.bsky.social & Tristan Edwards, helmed by CEO Jerry McLaughlin, has received @fda.gov IND clearance for cellular rejuvenation using partial epigenetic reprogramming in optic neuropathies. I'm so proud: www.lifebiosciences.com/life-bioscie...
Possibly how they constructed them?
Longevity biotech now targets root causes rather than single diseases. This is a paradigm shift in medicine
Including some species, like many bacteria, hydra, planaria, and the "immortal" jellyfish that do not age at all.
Why do we age? A detailed look at the data shows only one theory that matches observation: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....
Was at #Longevity #Biotech Association meeting. A rising tide lifts all boats, and it is so great to be able to work with colleagues at other companies on this. Thank you to James Peyer, Jim Mellon, @nirbarzilaimd.bsky.social , and especially @risastarr.bsky.social for pulling this together.
Interested in #longevity #biopharma? In Nat Aging, Lim, Zhang of @b-c-g.bsky.social and I quantify increasing activity in therapeutics using #aging biology. Soon, @lifebiosciences.bsky.social will be the first in clinical trials on a cellular rejuvenation therapy: www.nature.com/articles/s43...
I spoke at #transvisionmadrid today courtesy of Jose Luis Cordeiro. If you aren't signed up, there's still time to catch the remainder of the program, in person or online.
The inimitable @peterdiamandis.bsky.social is a tornado of thought and action. His track record is unmatched, as is his passion for longevity biotech. At @lifebiosciences.bsky.social we’re excited to contribute with our upcoming first-in-human cellular regeneration trials, planned for Q1 2026.
Congrats to my ex-BCG colleagues for publishing "The Longevity Paradox". Great insights on how much people care about their health and longevity, but are often at a loss as to how to proceed... with tips on what to do about it! www.bcg.com/publications...

@davidsinclairphd.bsky.social and I would like to share with you at #SWSX the science, ethics, and economics of #longevity science and cellular #rejuvenation. But we need your help: vote *this week* for our session at participate.sxsw.com/flow/sxsw/sx... if you want to hear more about this!

Great speakers!
New single out by our after-work band Abacus Rings: "Something". Carolyn Ringel's favorite, maybe because she thinks it is about her. Available on all platforms, and here: ditto.fm/something-ab...
