Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant.

The perks of being a GM with lore-invested players are many, but a literal 6 second transition turning into said players spending most of the session exploring a sudden Mysterious White Void was unexpected.
They learnt some things. I got a lot of fun DMs throughout. I love my party.
Longtime college friend of mine, Mike Prinke, was among those laid off at Epic Games: he has been fighting terminal brain cancer, and now he, his wife, and kid, have no income or health insurance.

one of the things that always helps me most with languages is noting down words that I don't know so that I can look them up later; the intentional learning & repetition bit then helps me catch it when I hear it later
also, conversation partners help a TONNE - lots of sites for them too, any level!
you don't necessarily need to full-on *study* for 3 hours a day, but try to get some passive exposure each day. open a news article and slowly make your way through it with a translator, listen to stuff aimed at kids/learners while doing chores, etc etc
