My friend Paul does knife and scissor sharpening from his canal boat, trading as Cutty Sharp.

Unfortunately they're stuck on the wrong side of the damaged section of Llangollen Canal that burst last December.

Lumping the evidence from Wales into "some local studies"

When teaching kids who are riding with the saddle too low we udge the seat up a little bit at a time so they can adjust to how it feels. The difference in pedalling power can be significant, even with just a small adjustment.

I sometimes think a quick release seat post on my e-bike would be useful, for when I have a huge load of shopping on the back and need to balance the weight a bit more carefully.

Stretford Grammar School head teacher killed in crash Four people are arrested after the death of Michael Mullins, 56, in a crash in Altrincham.

What a terrible loss - not just for his family but for everyone at the school.

Infuriatingly the BBC cannot bring themselves to say that he was killed by a driver.

I'm not sure if we're at cross-purposes.

The electric assist on EAPCs cuts out at 15.5mph.

The DVLA are saying that bikes with a so-called 'off road' mode (temporary increase in speed) do not comply with EAPC. So they're saying that the manufacturers are wrong.

That looks incredible!

I think it would take as much time to extract the footage as it did to just stop and take photos. And this way I could just tell Fix My Street to use the location on my phone.

It looks like you're in handcuffs.

Two people walking into the entrance of a school compound. A sign on the wall to the left says BRITISH SCHOOL, SALALAH.
There are palm trees in the compound. The sun is low and casting long shadows.

Open air camping in the mountains of northern Oman. Several people are lying in sleeping bags on the ground. There are some small scrubby trees. In the distance are mountains, made slightly fuzzy in the early morning mist.

Returning to school 13 years after leaving.

Warm sea. Bliss.

On our climbing trip to Lofoten we saw a guy on a push scooter, going up one of the massive hills.

Post you in another country.

Not cycling, and not climbing. They're from our trip back to Oman in 2012.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, and rolling down a sand dune like we used to do as kids.

Large pothole on a junction. It's impossible to avoid cycling over it because it's the whole width of the lane.

Long channel pothole, deep and with gravel in the bottom. Terrifying to cycle near it.

The great thing about cycling is that instead of just complaining about potholes, you can easily stop to take photos and report them.

It does, however, make your commute last 50 minutes instead of 15.

It appears not. See the heading of "off road mode" here: www.gov.uk/government/p...

The NCN between Newcastle and the ferry terminal was like a roller coaster of deformed surfaces. There was literally nothing remotely as bad as that in NL.

There are more potholes within half a mile of my house than I encountered in 250km of cycling in the Netherlands.

(This is the result of a £2.2billion 25 year PFI highways contract that was supposed to get us "the best roads in Europe")

I can imagine!

I'd love something like that, TBH, as somewhere to dump rucksacks, muddy boots & damp tents when we get home after climbing etc.

That's an appropriate use of Febreeze.

Generally squirting it everywhere is not.

(Having said that, we kept a plentiful supply of air freshener on the pharmacy for when certain customers came in).

It sounds like a really sensible idea: a utility passage. All it needs is a small downstairs toilet off the passage to make it complete.

Excellent piece! It's so important to tell stories from the real life perspective of ordinary people.

I can see that for boiling water to cook pasta etc, but to make a cup of tea an electric kettle plugged into full strength electricity is definitely quicker.

Ah yes, they have weedy electricity over there don't they.

If you just saw it without knowing what it was, then it would be scary.

The other morning we found a snail half way up our front door. It would have been great to measure the snail's trail with a snail tape measure.

"Fairness"
When you're used to privilege, fairness can feel unfair.

Why are you trying to boil water on the stove? That's what an electric kettle is for.

Oh yeah. Weird.
