Part of the experience riding on the first 2-line train across the I-90 bridge:

For Dosa Divas and Thirsty Suitors, we built a custom tool in Unity to layout the flow and structure of the game based on gameplay and story beats. It helps us keep track of all the various scenes, run the game at specific points and speeds up iteration.

Demonschool does this... kinda! Our backgrounds ARE full 3D, but for most of the overworld gameplay, we have a fixed camera angle... if there are no moving lights, we can cache the world to a texture and treat the whole world as an impostor, essentially doing runtime 'pre-rendering' i guess.
