Iโm Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng, a medical doctor & the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right of everyone to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, I DEMAND the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya from a brutal detention imposed by Israel.
End the genocide.
Here you can find the preliminary observations from UN Special Rapporteur Tlaleng Mofokeng following an official visit to Chile. End of thread. www.ohchr.org/sites/defaul...
"From older persons we heard of being forced to decrease their insurance coverage and move from private to public systems upon retirement, and from deaf women how the lack of sign language interpreters in public institutions creates barriers," @drtlaleng.bsky.social on Chile's health care system.
Lasting impact of the Chilean dictatorship and the 2019 unrest: "My discussions with young people who suffered eye injuries [trauma from state violence in 2019] illustrated more was needed to provide integral reparations to them, including critical psychosocial support."
On mental health care in Chile: "There is an urgent need for increase in the availability and quality of psycho-social mental health practitioners, specialists and community-based psychiatry for screening, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up to care." @drtlaleng.bsky.social
During her hospital visits in Chile, UN Special Rapporteur Tlaleng Mofokeng "heard from healthcare workers and administrators who reported overwhelming workloads, unsustainable stress levels, and exposure to violence, including from patients due to frustration with waiting times."
UN Special Rapporteur Mofokeng: "I repeatedly heard the worrying sentiment that 'in Chile, health is not a right, but a business'. Powerful groups representing vested interests in the health sector with profit-making aims tend to function without the necessary human rights safeguards in Chile."
A letter by @drtlaleng.bsky.social, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, to the Pope on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. www.ohchr.org/sites/defaul...

Arrests, detention, enforced disappearances, ill-treatment, torture, and killings of healthcare workers by the Israeli authorities is against international law.
"When people are denied their
right to education, or their right
to an adequate standard of living,
they are in consequence denied
their right to health" @drtlaleng.bsky.social writes in @unaids.bsky.social #WorldAIDSDay Report www.unaids.org/sites/defaul...
Still here.
Stop the genocide.
