The problem is that of the yearly worldwide of max. 1000 Gt CO2 photosynthesis potential (GPP on land + ocean), most CO2 is quickly reemitted (even as CH4 whose short-term GHG effect is worse) when decomposing.

We have to find ways to keep trees alive as long as possible - within healthy forests.

The global photosynthesis capacity is 800-1000 Gt CO2 per year (GPP land + ocean).

The net value is much lower due to natural and anthropogenic emissions.

We have to stop burning as much biomass as possible (next to fossil fuels) and find a way to keep methane emissions for plant decomposition low

CDR tech is not so promising after all.

Biomass Energy Carbon Capture and Storage is a match made in heaven for greenwashing energy companies. We know CCS is lucrative fantasy, but this paper shows sticking a hat on a biomass plant won’t make BECCS carbon negative for hundreds of years even if you squint. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The data shows only the net values, not the turnover volumes of the sinks (which are very low due to high natural AND anthropogenic / industrial emissions)

To stop climate change, we need to cut emissions. There's absolutely no way forward without that.

We also have to help support natural sinks -- essentially helping maintain healthy forests and healthy oceans.

Plus of course: water, which is not anthropogenic GHG, but implemented in the temperature feedback cycles.

and some minor ones like SF6, ozone, NOx etc.

Can we finally agree that burning wood for energy is a terrible idea and won't be carbon neutral, let alone carbon negative, in our lifetimes? BECCS using wood certainly shouldn't qualify as CO₂ removal (CDR).

Die Geburtenrate in D ist nur deshalb stabil (bei 1,2 statt 2,1), weil die einwandernden Mütter überdurchschnittlich viele Kinder bekommen, aber nur in den ersten Jahren - danach haben sie auch keinen Bock mehr darauf in dieser kinderfeindlichen Gesellschaft.

Doch, die Selbsterhöhung verblendet oft die Sicht auf die eigenen Missstände. Die Geburtenraten in Deutschland sind noch tiefer als in Russland und bei uns erfindet man "Rettung aus der Teilzeitfalle", um mehr Druck auf Frauen auszuüben von nicht-erziehenden Personen, um die Wirtschaft zu fixen.

Ja, absolut. Es ist ein globaler Rückwärtstrend. Gerade deshalb sollte man aber nicht den Eindruck vermitteln, dass das Gegenteil von "erzwungener" Mutterschaft eine Politik ist hierzulande, die die (entspannte, kindgerechte) Mutterschaft maximal erschwert. Jede Frau soll selbst entscheiden.

Mein Punkt ist, dass man die frauenfeindliche Politik hierzulande unkritisiert durchgehen lässt, während ein Diktator, der Menschen zu hunderttausenden tötet und Nachwuchsmangel hat, überraschenderweise kein Vorbild an Frauenpolitik liefert.

Er ist vor allem auch für den Tod hunderttausender Männer verantwortlich mit seinem fortgeführten Angriffskrieg.

Das macht aber die hiesige Politik nicht mütterfreundlicher. Die Dinge sind nicht schwarz-weiß.

Wir sind super darin, mit dem Finger auf andere zu zeigen, aber die demographische Krise trifft uns genauso (nur dass wir die Männer im mittleren Alter noch nicht in einem Angriffskrieg sterben lassen).
Unsere kinderlosen Politiker stärken die Wirtschaft mit Vollzeiterwartung als "Selbstbestimmung"

Bei uns erwartet man von Frauen Vollzeiterwerbsarbeit, die Geburtenraten von Frauen ohne Migrationshintergrund sinken massiv und die Politik schränkt alle Privilegien von Frauen wie Unterhaltsvorschuss oder Mitversicherung ein - auch das ist misogyne Politik.

Wer soll denn sonst in den Gefängnissen sitzen als die arbeits- und obdachlosen Menschen, die sich keine Fahrkarte leisten können?

Es kann ja nicht jeder so tolerant sein wie Bremen.

For biochar the other emissions can be problematic (ev. releasing methane, NOx etc)

For BECCS, the CCS part is non-permanent and ineffective.

Most tech CDR misses the essential honesty in admitting that their processes

- emit many GHGs
- are non-permanent
- use permanently stored CO2
- require many ressources
- harm the environment
- work only on paper

That is why MRV can often not confirm "reduction of atmospheric GHGs"
