Man, I really do not like how many people try to claim that the SNP are hard-done-by through the additional member system, esp when they cite the 2016 results. The SNP got 46.5% of the constituency votes then, 41.7% of the regional votes, and got 48.8% of the total seats. How is that not fair?

- but it's been a decade+ since I last studied phonetics so definitely take all this with a pinch of salt, lol. I miss it though........ this stuff scratches my brain in such a satisfying way
Yeah, for sure not the same sound but close relatives in how they're formed in the mouth! The sound for the h in human is def a better imitation, tho I think the delivery mechanism is more divergent since it's stealthily 2 sounds, [hj], sort of similar to how the [fj] sound works in "fusion" -
voiceless palatal fricative vs voiceless velar fricative innit (she says like she hasn't been scraping this together via the internet and half remembered undergrad phonetics class for the last fifteen minutes)
Scottish Greens manifesto is out, compare and contrast
I know passionate supporters of LGBTQ+ equality in Labour who have felt increasingly marginalised in the party and unable to support the leadership's view.
But to see the manifesto include anti-trans policies rejected by their own party conference must surely be the last straw for many.
• Delivering single-sex spaces on the basis of biological sex, in NHS wards, schools, sport and everyday life by upholding the Equality Act and delivering clear instructions to public services on how to comply with their legal obligations to women and to trans people. • Keeping women's prisons for women, instructing the Scottish Prison Service to remove all biologically male prisoners from women's prisons within days of the election. • Recommit the NHS to delivering single sex wards on the basis of biological sex, and ensuring patients can request same sex provision wherever possible.
Scottish Labour manifesto is out, don’t vote for them
Meanwhile Reform's Graham Simpson didn't even bother to come up with a minute's worth concluding statement and tried to seek audience participation only to be completely stonewalled. Is he doing this at every hustings or just the ones he doesn't give a fuck about
The Greens' @hollybruce.bsky.social being indirectly attacked all hustings on her "unrealistic" universal childcare promises and waiting until her minute concluding statement to slam down "actually our plan has been fully costed, here's how much and how we'll get it" made me smile
At a hustings today and boy do I looooove listening to people who never intend to make positive changes explaining that it's just Not Financially Realistic to make positive changes, even when told the positive changes might actually save money

I finally got around to playing (& completing) Unpacking over the long weekend and now all I want to play is more of Unpacking :(
We all deserve so much better
It's amazing how few of my posts are me being an angry feminist considering how much time I spend being angry about misogyny in all its forms
Lured my dad out to my neck of the woods and helped him get some new birds for his photo library 😎 bsky.app/profile/did:...
Trans Day of Act Now to Stop Labour's Section 28!
Tell all your cis friends and colleagues. They have until 20 April.
I would not have possibly presumed to suggest that a nuthatch might be possible on this trip -- I hear them infrequently and see them even less. AND YET!
A rose-ringed parakeet (a beautiful bright green bird) perching on a branch
A white-throated dipper (a very round dark brown bird with a white patch at its throat/front) perching on a rock in the middle of a river
A Eurasian nuthatch (a bird shaped like the lower half of an oval, very flat on top, with grey-blue feathers on its back and head and yellow-rose feathers on its belly, and a black steak over its eyes) perching on a very mossy branch, with what appears to be a nut in its beak
I don't know if there are many more satisfying things in life than taking your dad to the park you've been bigging up as a great birdwatching site for parakeets and dippers, and him successfully bagging both AND ALSO A NUTHATCH
❤️❤️❤️
Told our local Labour candidate that I can't possibly vote for Labour thanks to how they've treated trans people and immigrants, now to get all that anxious energy out by stress cleaning
Seeing the last flat I rented back on the rental market for nearly twice the amount of the last rent rise they asked me for (& therefore nearly twice my monthly mortgage) sure is making me feel some kind of way
That's so cool!!! I also love collared doves, they only narrowly lose out to stock doves... I love bird cooperation, I once saw a carrion crow eating seeds while another crow was picking fights with gulls hovering above, and I choose to believe those two things were connected 😄
Sounds like it might be feral pigeon behaviour - stock doves are very shy and I've never seen more than one at a time - another reason why they are the best pigeon/dove 😌
(my favourite bird is another question entirely - and that goes, narrowly, to the beloved long tailed tit)
But yes I can totally believe that of woodpigeons (photo below); I have photos somewhere of two magpies, a crow, and two rock pigeons all looking on at a safe distance as a bulky woodpigeon calmly consumed a crust macaulaylibrary.org/asset/165123...
Woodpigeons surely?? Not sweet little stock doves???
Just look at it. Petite. Woodpigeon proportions. Feral pigeon iridescence. Pretty black eyes. It truly has it all macaulaylibrary.org/asset/103889...
Stock dove: cutest Scottish wild pigeon/dove? Discuss
*spelling, I blame all the Half Life/Deus Ex memes
