Nigel Farage must act.
Anti-vax conspiracy theories are a threat to public health and an insult to those we lost.
They have no place in our politics.

We’ve written to Mr Farage about this Reform UK candidate & others who deny covid & make false claims about the covid vaccine.
Looking forward to his reply after he has ‘looked into’ them. Swift action needs to be taken to remove them.

This letter from Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK deserves a serious and immediate response from the leader of Reform UK
Unsurprising yet horrific this is needed.
And speaking as one of so many whose relative died of Covid in a care home, alongside seeing the lives of dear friends ravaged by long Covid.
Thanks to @cbffjuk.bsky.social for speaking truth to those in & seeking power.
Peddling these conspiracy theories is not just an insult to those bereaved by Covid, it's a danger to public health.
There will be another pandemic. Another vaccine could save lives again, but that won't be possible if public trust in vaccines is eroded.
Reform must act.

Reform candidate for the Senedd, Emma Clatworthy, falsely claimed people cannot catch a virus and that people were rushing to get a vaccine that "can kill them".

Reform candidate for East Kilbride, Dr Timothy Kelly, wrongly claimed in 2023 that the Covid vaccination was neither safe or effective.
In the first year alone covid vaccines saved more than 14 million lives.

Kenneth Morton, who is standing as a Reform candidate in the Scottish Assembly election, liked social media posts dismissing Covid-19 as “a psychological hoax” treated with a “fake vaccine".

Glenda Hall, a reform candidate for Sunderland Council, liked and shared Covid conspiracy videos on Facebook, including one that described Covid as the "hoax of the century".

David Booth, who is standing to be a Reform Councillor in Croydon, referred to the Covid pandemic as a “staged event” that was designed by “powerful forces” to control the population.

Today, we wrote to Nigel Farage following a string of stories in recent weeks exposing Reform candidates pushing Covid and vaccine conspiracy theories.
We are calling on him to remove any candidate found to have promoted these views.

🧵
There will be another pandemic.
The Government must not turn its back on pandemic preparedness.
Read the report here: gov.uk/government/p...
9/9
The Government needs a serious long-term plan for vaccines, alongside therapeutics, antivirals and prophylactics.
It needs the capacity, funding and resilience to move quickly in a crisis, and to protect those most at risk.
8/9
Misinformation fuelled vaccine scepticism during the pandemic.
In the years since, Covid conspiracy theories have increasingly found a home in our politics.
These dangerous conspiracy theories put public health at risk, and the Government must tackle them head-on.
7/9
The report also points to serious problems, including the failure to deliver vaccines to underserved communities, including those in deprived areas, ethnic minorities and the disabled.
A vaccine only saves lives if people have access to it.
6/9
...but Baroness Hallett is clear that this capability now has to be maintained and increased.
The UK cannot treat this as a one-off success, then let the lessons, systems and capacity fall away.
5/9
The report praises the huge collaborative effort behind the rollout, the excellent work of temporary task forces, and the at-risk funding that helped maximise the chances of finding effective vaccines and treatments...
4/9
For those bereaved by Covid, this is deeply personal.
Many of our loved ones died before vaccines could protect them.
We know exactly what is at stake when people are left exposed.
3/9
Covid vaccinations saved at least 14 million lives worldwide in the first year alone.
In England, from 2020 to 2023, more than 400,000 lives were saved.
The vaccine was the key to ending the pandemic.

Today, the Covid Inquiry published its fourth report, on vaccines and therapeutics.
It says the vaccine rollout was a success.
But unless trust in vaccines is rebuilt and manufacturing capacity increased, we will be relying on luck when the next pandemic hits.

I am back at the Covid Inquiry for the publication of the Module 4 Report on Vaccines and Therapeutics. We hope the relative successes in vaccines will not mask the catastrophic failures in therapeutics.
We hope the report acknowledges the £millions wasted and also the devastating evidence that despite all we learned from the pandemic, we are in a worse position for making our own vaccines today than we were before Covid-19 struck.

Conspiracy theories claiming Covid-19 was a “staged event” are an insult to all who lost loved ones and a threat to public health.
Reform must remove David Booth as a candidate and clearly disown these dangerous lies.

Shortly after the report is published at 12pm, the Chair of the Inquiry will give a statement.
You can watch it here: www.youtube.com/@UKCovid-19I...
Tomorrow, the Covid Inquiry publishes its report on vaccines and therapeutics.
Covid vaccines saved countless lives and helped end the emergency stage of the pandemic.
The report must now drive urgent action to strengthen preparedness, tackle misinformation and ensure equal access to vaccines.

Module 4 should recognise what went right, including the huge role vaccines played in saving lives and helping the country out of the emergency.
But it must not pull its punches on what went wrong and what must change before the next crisis.
10/10
If people are asked to act in the public interest, safety systems and redress must be credible too.
The report should confront weaknesses in adverse event monitoring and the failure of the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme.
9/10
That means recognising the role of structural racism, disability discrimination, poverty and insecure work in shaping who gets protected, when and how.
Future planning must remove those barriers before a crisis begins.
8/10
Future planning cannot just recreate the last response.
The UK needs stronger onshore manufacturing across a range of vaccine technologies and therapeutics, backed by a serious long-term strategy, coordination and funding.
