The far right don’t believe in climate change, but climate change is bringing more uncertainty and volatility meaning the far right will claim they can take control. The future looks bleak

A small point from the Mandelson/Robbins saga. Refom and many Tories argue for a civil service than can be more easily bent to the will and whims of their elected political masters.
This is precisely what happened here.
Well let's see how this strategy of telling "white liberals" to "fuck right off" works out in the local elections
As women are naturally maternal, wait until she hears about the field of social work.
Exactly. Most people are nuanced and understand things are difficult and complex. But the media, and increasingly, our politicians want to create simple binaries. And their audience see to lap it up
😂. They’ll just speak louder in English.
Anyone who speaks another language will know that idioms are not easy to understand. But most white British people don’t speak another language so have no understanding. The purpose of language is to communicate; if you’re not getting understood,
What are you hoping to achieve?
This may be the most shameless opinion piece ever written.
Last month, the UK head of Palantir attacked the company's critics as "ideological groups." This month, the company's global CEO has published a call for US tech companies to recognise a moral responsibility to support American fascism.
Placing bets on Polymarket is illegal in Italy. The platform can be accessed, but not used for trades.

I've got a paperback out May 7th and I won't be going round bookshops demanding to know where it is because I'm not a monumental Goodwin.
Matt Goodwin posting on twitter having a go at Waterstones saying… “Hey @Waterstones. Where's Suicide of a Nation? Weird how the No.1 paperback in Britain never happens to be on display…” Not realising he’s standing in front of hardback books.
As an author who also happens to have a book in @waterstones.bsky.social, I at least know the difference between paperback and hardback books, which he’s standing in front of…
Setting everything else aside, what sort of 44 year old dresses like this?
Borussia Dortmund ultra group The Unity joined pro-refugee groups in their city to demand the stay in Germany of two Senegal nationals whose brother had been shot dead by police.
The two came to Germany to join the trial against police and are now facing deportation.

He told ChatGPT he was a nazі іncel who wanted to dіe, then asked how many people you’d have to shoot at his school to get on the news. ChatGPT helped him pick his ammo, pick his target, pick the best time for the massacre, and then told him how to use the gun. Then he did.

The BBC boasts of a 95% public reach, during this Charter Review period.
On this high profile issue, > 80% of people don't even know whether immigration is rising or falling.
So our public service broadcasters are struggling on core mission to inform, educate

The train network in the UK is incredible. Not only does the train turn up half an hour late, only half the train turns up. How can CrossCountry lose five carriages en route?
HE has been on its knees for over a decade, it provides to its local economy, the future of the nation, and soft power internationally. Yet, there is silence and inaction from the government.
These days, between 14 and 18 April 1937, coinciding with the anniversary of the Spanish Republic, a cycle race was held between the Aragón front and Barcelona. 50 cyclists, mainly Republican soldiers, took part. The event has been commemorated a number of times in recent years.
The media (rightly) highlighted the human rights abuses in Qatar prior to the last men’s World Cup. They are studiously ignoring the human rights abuses of the US, one of the hosts of the next men’s World Cup
Barrera said her husband said the smell of human feces in the toilet caused a fellow detainee to vomit and, in turn, created a chain of people vomiting. She said her husband is asthmatic and has not received medication to treat his condition. The lack of medicine and the stress of the overcrowded holding cell has left him short of breath and teetering on the edge of an asthma attack, Barrera said. ICE did not immediately respond to questions on April 10 about the conditions of the Mesa or Phoenix facilities. After the publication of this article, Barrera told The Arizona Republic her husband was transferred to the ICE facility at San Luis Regional Detention Center at about midnight. The San Luis Regional Detention Center is in Southwestern Arizona and has the capacity to hold 700 people.
This is horrific. A U.S. citizen describes the facility in Arizona that her husband was brought to while he waited to be put on a deportation flight. Dozens of people were crammed into tiny cells, there was a "chain of people vomiting" from filthy toilets, no medical care, and only one meal per day.
For those counting this would be relaunch number 16.
Over on Twitter I’ve been waiting for Andrew Neil to say something *anything* about Orban & Hungary. He’s been uncharacteristically quiet 🤔
USA 2026 will be the most expensive, least welcoming World Cup ever for travelling fans. And that's before we even begin to reckon with how TV viewers will respond to 50% more teams and 60%+ more games - and the drop in quality that will bring. Fifa is really testing its golden goose to destruction.
Unfortunately this is not new. Greece, with the tacit approval of the EU in general, has long been carrying out actions which put people seeking asylum in harms way, along with so many other EU countries and FRONTEX. International law is repeatedly ignored.

It’s beginning to look as if the US World Cup is becoming just another reflection of all the attributes of Trumpland.
I'm curious about these left wing movements who sponsor academic conferences and fellows. Where do we sign up? Or is Goodwin using ChatGPT to do his research again?
Former Syracuse basketball player to be deported after more than a month in ICE custody
26 years old from South Sudan. He has been in the US since age 13, when he was recruited to the country for basketball.
Now being discarded as if he was human refuse.
Shame on Syracuse for not intervening.
