Got to play another micro-TTRPG yesterday! Me and my sisters played Pig at a Wedding (by @gshowitt.bsky.social) from @oneshotrpg.bsky.social’s Ultimate Micro-RPGs collection and had a blast! 🐖💒 Especially fun bc my oldest sister has two kunekune pigs at home, so it felt super appropriate for us.

The only reasonable response to the presence of a goddess is fear.
The art of game design: the spark of creation, to find play between the confines of rules and the expression of agency, to marry the beauty of systems and aesthetic expression,
The discipline of game design: fucking finish the thing
Graveyard Keeper is a lot of fun, definitely worth grabbing here
What these static images don’t show is how, in the video, it sways so delectably as you move.

This will not look on me like it looks on him. I do not know that I can pull it off.
But fuck me, I’m in love.
It's the last day of the Public Access campaign, and we have just revealed the final Secret Stretch Goal, a solo journaling game called Public Access: Apartment 319!
Read more here, and be sure to back before it's too late!

I love 5e and I'll probably always love it... but I am already loving getting to do campaign play in a different system. Can't wait to see how it feels after 5, 10, 20 sessions 😁
✨✨✨ NO ✨✨✨
My D&D 5e group decided to switch to a new campaign in a rules-lighter system -- an adapted Kids on Bikes -- and we had our first session today. It was AWESOME. Got to pull out a very different character than my last one and make some...... impulsive decisions. 😁
my timing is perfect. legitimately been planning to order this for ages, will probably be my first purchase once my wardrobe moratorium ends in June
Guess who's back and reviewing games!! If you've got something new for me to look at, read over, or dive into send me an email at lin@rascal.news!!!
Oh! There was also a conversation in ep 1 about character endgame mechanics — i.e something that permanently removes a PC from play mid-session. Sometimes as a consequence of play choices (Honey Heist), sometimes as the cost for a success. There have got to be a BUNCH of cool design uses there.
me when someone cites the deep magic to me even though I was there when it was written: holy shit, for real? I don't remember that part at all
I’m just getting into episode two, and I’m really liking the discussion about rewarding players mechanically for making decisions that are bad for the party or their character but that embody the class archetype. Gets me looking again at The Station, which is similarly built around genre archetypes.
The first episode, on Lasers & Feelings, really got me thinking about the boons and drawbacks of minimalist design. It’s also got me itching to take a second look at Fae/Gothic, my own L&F hack where I can see I was a little tentative in spots where I could push the theming harder.
Trying to find more hobbies that don’t require looking at a screen (eye strain ftw), and dipping more into podcasts. I’ve started in on Dice Exploder and I’m really enjoying it.
Narrative Designer role at Mad Head, remote is mentioned but maybe need to be near a studio? Check listing: careers.madheadgames.com/jobs/narrati...
Do I know any other women or queer game directors?
Recs to follow please! 💛
Me, watching the Critical Role gang play Monsterhearts, going “what IS THIS??” in wonder and glee
fuck
If y’all discover any revelations, please let me know! I’m fairly new to the process — my ADHD, physical isolation and aversion to that flavor of vulnerability means I’ve actually only run playtests a handful of times myself, despite my intent to get over my yips and build it into my process.
Playtesting. It’s coordination of schedules, it’s asking people to give a shit about my work & donate their own time to it, it’s my work being shown as success or a failure in realtime while I run it and perform not being an open wound…… it’s so important and also a process designed to kill me
wow, there’s nothing like a modern reboot of a classic
i.... love this so much??? ? ?? ? ?
This is a great bit of writing.
