That’s gorgeous. Where’s it from?
I’d be absolutely stunned if AI was creating any amazing art, but too much doesn’t meet the extremely low bars of “not cheap filler” and “oh no, not this again”
I know it’s not your question but I think it’s more remarkable how recognisable and how ugly low effort AI artwork is. Even quite ornate images engender a similar response in me to finding clip art in the public domain.
I think the checkerboard-style artworks were impressive tbh, but they’re more “clever” than impactful
"I still don’t care if the paper will be paywalled or not. That is, I’ll pay for open access publication if I have the funds and the journal is otherwise a good fit for the paper, but I don’t care about open access per se"

Been thinking about this solidly for 40 minutes, and I think it's evidence for a theory I have, that a lot of successful people have a worse life than they should because they haven't adjusted enough of their living habits around the fact they are successful.
Really helpful read on what are these tokens that folks always refer to with LLMs.
King's College London are seeking a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics (Quantitative Modelling) to "develop an independent research programme in applied mathematics, mathematical modelling, or a closely related area" www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DRG116/l...
Good post by a history prof, in the genre “What most people don’t understand yet is …” — although, in my experience, a lot of the academics it’s addressing do grasp what’s happening with agents, and just really wish it would not happen.
Yes very good. My daughter in law, a web developer, says her job has changed beyond recognition in the past 3 months- but: there are still key organisational bottlenecks
Interesting changes to ERC eligibility, low scores now exclude you from reapplications for up to 3 years.
It’s official: the UK is rejoining Erasmus! 👏🇪🇺
Incidentally it was impossible finding this as I had to search a handful of different apps, having found it on on site and being redirected to the Substack app. And so, needed to check the history of every app manually rather than eg search my browser history
Interesting meeting on AI and early detection of cancer at UCL this morning. Got talking about the below blog post on how AI transcription unintentionally altered one GPs practice- there are clearly lots of unintentional impacts of adoption of new tech

Good piece. “If your problem with open access is that commercial publishers are hoovering up all the money, design open access interventions that specifically prevent commercial publishers from receiving your money.”
Great, thoughtful article that has helped me shape my unease with CRUKs blunt policy choice
New from me: Why funders shouldn’t withdraw money from open access publishing

It’s definitely an acquired taste, and I didn’t like them in everything (and now I tend to avoid them as I’ve gone off them). I think it was the caffeine them that got me hooked…
To start
But for a last meal? I was never that keen. It’d be a nice stout
Yeah, honestly… I used to be one of them. It’s not about the sugar- you get to enjoy to the specific flavour of diet over regular (and I think diet has the most caffeine too).
I think there’s a good chance Trump will disown/disassociate from orban. He hates losers and being on the losing side.
Is a supermajority technically meaningful in their system?
Any news on Dixons?
Ghost ship and proper job are nice; with stout you’re spoiled with Guinness and galactic from big drop.
Your own personal Jesus
I suspect that bibliography analysis/verification tools will be coming soon, not just for pubs but for student reports (like an extension to turnitin)
