In our next Tiny Glade update we'll bump the light limit from 32 to 32k while keeping the cost more or less the same.

The small limit has been a cop out, as we didn't quite know how to render huge numbers of (screen-space) shadow-casting lights without severe performance degradation.

I wanted to build some gunpla. I don't have runners stands, so I decided to design and 3D print them. I wanted to see real dimensions on my screen, but there is no such feature in #blender. :(
Anyway. I will be releasing an extension that zooms the viewport to real-world size.

Yup. I think only solution is to bake materials then. Solid mode is limited in features for sake of performance so it only allows simple texture overlays.
There are many addons to automate UV mapping and baking.

You want to just see it? There is render pass visualization in Viewport shading menu. Diffuse color is the base color for non-metallic objects / spec color is for metallic.

In case of deforming objects steps are kinda similar. Sculp and then retopo. The key difference is that topology must be prepared for deformation so automatic tools won't work at all.

In case of non-deforming objects topology isn't really that important. As long as it hold shapes and shading well and isn't to dense it will be fine. People ship AAA games with low poly models made with automatic decimation tools and some manual fixes.

Make any topology that represents the shape and silhouette well and then retopo or optimize. In first stages there will be a lot of changes and decisions regarding the model itself, imho final topology shouldn't hold you back.
