So maybe all those pro-worker laws aren't so bad for business after all? (Red means businesses close the fastest. And yes, I'm also confused about Oregon). www.newsweek.com/map-where-us...

A great job opportunity!
Question for labor/housing wonks: has anyone studied eviction rates of union members relative to workers of comparable demographics/education levels? I’m guessing eviction rates wd be notably lower (even w/ comparable incomes) bc of job security, health insurance, less precarity. Thx for any leads!
"Every other component of development, from financing to consulting to administrative overhead, is built into the cost of doing business without scrutiny. The only line item people question is the pay earned by the lowest-wage workers on the site." 👏 www.cityandstateny.com/sponsors/spo...
Great op-ed by Justice Favor of the Mason Tenders explaining why good construction jobs are critical for NYC. He effectively pushes back against the idea that fair wages impede affordable housing, noting that it's a false choice (1/2) www.cityandstateny.com/sponsors/spo...
How do you fix American politics? Encourage union members to run for office!
New research shows that union members connect more with voters and follow through with worker-first priorities when they're in office. #txlege
FYI, they're used First Amendment arguments in a case in CO regarding required disclosure to customers/drivers about how much drivers make/customers pay & a case in NYC requiring DoorDash to show the customer tipping screen before delivery, not after. They lost in NYC & I think in CO too.
BUT Charlotte how will gig companies ever have a chance to air their own points of view??? They're just plain muzzled!!
Silicosis cases from artificial engineered quartz countertops are sickening and killing workers all over the country. But instead of moving to safer substitutes, countertop manufacturers want Congress to exempt them from lawsuits. kffhealthnews-org.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/kffhealt...
A car intentionally barreled into a large Michigan synagogue with preschool in session yesterday. The security guards killed the suspect & the toddlers were safe (this time). And overall, it's like "Well, I guess that's Thursday." I don't even know if anyone other than Jews & politicians noticed?
Everyone! Do you need a jolt of hope & joy? My cousin Chai Levy is a rabbi in Berkeley & also an amazing singer/songwriter! Here's her very first music video, with a song that's at once joyful, calming, and just what I needed to hear today. Please have a listen! www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5oZ...
Pam Bondi doesn't want state bars to investigate ethics violations by DOJ lawyers. This suggests that we need active filing of complaints against DOJ lawyers grossly violating legal ethics. "The state bar holds the key to these people’s ability to wield their sword.” www.nytimes.com/2026/03/04/u...
While many of us were inside with coffee or cocoa, people were *working outside* during the monster snowstorm. But no specific rules protect their workplace safety. In climate extremes - frigid cold or blistering heat - workers need protection. My latest in @thehill.com thehill.com/opinion/ener...
Two headlines from today's NYTimes: In the UK, a literal former monarch is on the verge of being held accountable. In the US, Trump pardons are letting convicted wealthy donors off the hook. The contrast, oof. We have king-like oligarchs who are above the law.
Great piece: @brendanballou.bsky.social describes revolting rampant impunity for pardoned Trump donors who've stolen from workers & investors. But as he notes, Trump can only pardon federal crimes. State & local prosecutors are critical for accountability & justice. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/18/o...
Wisconsin labor enforcers recently found widespread child labor violations statewide by a large Burger King franchisee. Last week, I spoke with Wisconsin Public Radio about the case and about child labor more generally, including the need for more state action. (1/2) www.wpr.org/shows/wiscon...
I just got a fundraising text from the Kennedy child running for Congress in NY. The text says zero about his experience/qualifications. Just “my grandfather this” “my family that.” It made my support for @micahlasher.bsky.social even stronger. Micah’s smart, strategic, experienced & effective.
Bad Bunny for Vanity Fair in 2023:
“What I do, I do from my heart...I believe that every human being has the duty to have empathy for others, to help others, to respect them, to always try to contribute something to society, to bring a positive change.”

Pelosi’s endorsement of Schlossberg just bc he’s A Kennedy is revolting.
👉 in a democracy, we shouldn’t embrace dynasties
👉 he’s unserious at a deadly serious time
👉 @micahlasher.bsky.social who is running there is smart, strategic & bold, an extraordinary leader. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/07/u...
The USDOL has a program allowing employers to say “my bad” do a self audit, pay what the employer decides it owes, and avoid in estimation. And federal prosecutors have decided to take it easy on corporate crimes: see this. For corporations, anything goes. (2/2) www.reuters.com/legal/govern...
Trump & Co are rolling out the red carpet for corporate crimes of all kind: environmental, financial, workplace abuses. Screw your workers, pollute the planet - it’s all good. The only enforcement this team will do involves hunting down immigrants trying to live their lives & contribute (1/2)
Show solidarity w baristas who are basically our neighbors just trying to afford their lives. Delete the Starbucks app.
PS yes I did download the app just to delete it. $9 enorme pistachio-hazelnut-truffle drinkaccinos (from union busters!) aren’t my thing. Still my point remains: #DeleteTheApp
IMAGE: a stylized cell phone with flames coming out of it. TEXT: Delete the Starbucks app off your phone. Seriously. Starbucks is the biggest violator of labor law in modern history. We have the power to tell them union-busting is bad for business. Don't shop at Starbucks until they do better by their baristas!
If Starbucks won’t respect workers at the bargaining table, they don’t deserve our clicks or orders.
Our call to action is simple:
📱 Delete the Starbucks app. #DeleteTheApp

brass solidarity band performing “stand by me” in the streets of whittier next to alex pretti’s memorial. the crowd started chanting “the people united will never be defeated” so they incorporated it into the song. i love minneapolis
Statement from Alex Pretti's union.

How can Mamdani stand up for workers? For new laws, he needs Albany/City Council..but there’s a LOT he can do w/o them. My favorite: being a matchmaker for workers wanting to unionize & unions wanting to organize new worksites.❤️ My latest in @nydailynews.com (1/2) www.nydailynews.com/2026/01/13/h...
