China has reason to call Trump’s bluff on tariffs.

“.. exports from the world's second-largest economy have grown 7.1% to 19.95 trillion yuan ($2.80 trillion) in the first nine months of this year, despite a significant drop in goods heading to the United States.”

Like much else from the history of Egypt's revolution, the story of Maspero continues to be contested as Egypt's leaders work to erase their crimes from public record and public memory. But videos of armored vehicles deliberately plowing through unarmed crowds cannot easily be forgotten.

A Marginalized Memory in Egypt: Remembering the Maspero Massacre from the Coptic Hospital Fourteen years ago, on October 9, 2011, Egyptian security forces violently attacked protesters in Maspero, killing 28 and injuring hundreds. There was one demand from the protesters and their loved on...

Here @amyfallas.bsky.social captures the tensions, fears, struggles & debates witnessed in the Coptic Hospital that night. Families brought loved ones for treatment, seeking medical care as much as refuge from the violent sectarianism they found outside the hospital walls timep.org/2025/10/15/a...

Maspero was a formative experience for Egypt's Christians.

It showed that the military they served in was ready kill them. It showed that even after Mubarak's fall, State TV remained a sectarian mouthpiece of power, as an anchor dangerously told citizens to "protect" the military from Christians.

I will never forget the dread & horror I felt that day, living in Cairo and seeing Egypt's military had massacred peaceful Coptic Christian protestors by firing on them & trampling them with armored vehicles. The mangled bodies were horrifying, as was the sectarian incitement that followed 🧵

It's unclear from this article if this aid is meant to run through the GHF which has been killing Palestinians at aid centers on a daily basis by deliberately firing into crowds that pose no threat to soldiers. This came from testimony from both Palestinians and Israeli soldiers themselves.

Here in North Carolina, we have a statute, section 15a-401 of the NC Code, that requires police officers to identify themselves when making an arrest or during the functional equivalent of an arrest. There's no equivalent federal law, but there needs to be. Might be something for Democrats to push.

Unfortunately few people have ever wanted to pay for hard news and investigations, which have always been subsidized by ads, cartoons, crosswords, Wordle, recipe apps, paid events, etc., and can mostly only be undertaken by newsrooms. Readers of indy Substacks are paying for takes

Israel plans to occupy and flatten all of Gaza if no deal by Trump's trip Trump has effectively given Netanyahu a green light to do as he sees fit, Israeli officials say.

Israel's reported plan to intensify assault, displacement, and destruction in #Gaza would amount to an abhorrent escalation of crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and acts of genocide.

States should urgently act to prevent further mass atrocities.
