Yet Another Reason To Love Baseball I don't think I really had a choice with baseball. As far back as I can remember, there was always a game on. Phil Rizzuto and Frank White were nightly voices in our house. Don Mattingly starred on TV every summer night. I remember waiting for Dad to get home from work so that we could have a catch. Even Mom got in the action and would catch me when Dad was stuck working a double shift.

The Professional Designation is a Smoke Screen Teachers are no longer professionals as are nurses. What is the real reason behind these changes?

This goes far beyond telling a #teacher that they aren’t a professional. The endgame for inequity is far worse than many can imagine. www.thesecondread.com/the-professi... #inequality

The Professional Designation is a Smoke Screen Teachers are no longer professionals as are nurses. What is the real reason behind these changes?

The reclassification of certain careers as no longer being professional, at first, hit me as an attack on #Education. As a teacher, I’ve seen it before. But, looking at it more closely, there are far more dangerous intentions here. www.thesecondread.com/the-professi... @lincolnproject.us

Good morning, everyone. The idea of teachers not being professional is a smokescreen for something bigger. #EduSky www.thesecondread.com/the-professi...

I started to write a piece about teaching+the no longer being professional thing. But, then I decided to hold that and think of things I’m grateful for, both important and silly. So here’s the the 1st Annual Second #Thankful List #Gratitude www.thesecondread.com/the-first-an...

We keep telling students that writing is a process…
Then AI walks in and says, “Hold my beer for a second.”
So what happens now?

While that fear is true, it does not mean we have to dial it back to 1985. That would do kids such a disservice. Here’s a few ways I have been trying to deal with all of this. #EduSky www.thesecondread.com/the-battle-o...

As an English Teacher, my favorite thing to teach is writing. I love the process, the one on one time, the revision. There is a fear among teachers—a real fear—that AI could undermine that. (1/2)

I long for the good old days…you know childhood and all that. Back when we’d go out and play until the street lights came on. Baseball games. Riding bikes. Simpler times. A time when the Nazi’s and White Supremacists were the bad guys and condemned by our government officials.

Classroom Story: Assuming For some reason, this student I had about 16 years or so ago popped into my head today. I had a conversation with a colleague today about students and how hard they are working. Yes, there are conversations that happen between Teachers that involve praising kids, not complaining about them. You just have to surround yourself with good people to have those…

Here's a quick story about when a student taught me a lesson about assuming. #EduSky

Unapologetic Candidness Some writing that covers education, some sports, and some life stuff/

Moving my writing off of Substack because of their well documented Nazi association. With people giving salutes now, it seems even more important. Substack won’t miss me, but I’ll sleep better. For now, it’s all here: unapologeticcandidness.wordpress.com

To The New Teachers… No matter the chaos, please try to hold on. It's worth it. Photo by Anna Tarazevich on Pexels.com After this year, I technically have just five years left in public education. It is hard to believe that 27 years has flown by in an instant. There is a part of me that can’t wait to retire and to begin my second act.

I am a little worried for the New Teachers...They are going to face a lot. I hope they know it's worth it. #EduSky

Nurturing The New Teacher We must continue to mentor and check-in with our new teachers, especially now that we are at our halfway point in the school year.

As I get closer to the end of my time in a classroom, I am focusing more on helping new teachers find their way in this amazing field. Some thoughts as we hit the midway point. #EduSky

Love what the #Dodgers are doing. Spend the money, invest in the team. Doesn’t guarantee a championship as the #MLB 162 game schedule and playoffs show. Nobody wants to write about MLB having the most parity of the major sports in terms of playoff teams and champions.

Teachers Should Lead While there are great administrators out there, many are using the wrong definitions of equity while we continue to get over the pandemic.

If you haven’t taught since 2020, your experience is irrelevant. Admin need to lean on teachers for PD and how to truly know what equity in #Education means. #EduSky
