Providence is ready for new leadership!!

One cool thing about this project is that it had the enthusiastic support of the neighborhood association, WBNA. It’s great to have a pro-housing neighborhood association that fights for affordable housing! 😊
Very excited about the approval of a new affordable housing development at 322 Washington St. Another project made possible by accepting the federal affordable housing funds RI had been rejecting before my intern Phoebe Dragseth and I did an investigation exposing this practice.

It’s wild that Brett Smiley submitted a budget that wasn’t balanced. His budget creates a budget crisis in the Providence schools. When there’s a big deficit in the biggest part of the budget, it’s not a balanced budget.
Hey media--
Pam Bondi is not a victim -- she willingly carried out Trump's political agenda to prosecute his political enemies and undermine free and fair elections.
Todd Blache is not shouldering a "burden" or "walking a tightrope." He is a willing accomplice.
Language matters.
BREAKING:
Protests erupt in Tel Aviv calling for an end to the war.
Great idea! You’d do a fantastic job!
THE BIG ONE:
The left has kept Paris.
Emmanuel Gregoire has won a 3-way runoff, beating conservative challenger Rachida Dati. Gregoire is from the center-left PS, the party of the retiring incumbent Anne Hidalgo (well known among US urbanists).
Disappointed to see McKee nominate the CEO of Beacon Bank (formerly BankRI) to chair the Life Sciences Hub. Apart from the ethics concerns, does he have the time to put in the work this important job requires? Neil Steinberg was able to dedicate real focus to it.

Imagine writing this about a politician and thinking people will be like gosh, I dunno, I like that he seemed nice but now that I know he's also effective I'm having second thoughts
The FBI’s sloppy raid in Fulton County reeks of ulterior motives.

They either didn't know Iran would shut down the Strait of Hormuz or they knew and didn't have a plan.
Either way - just totally clear they don't give a damn about what this war means for hardworking Americans.
The better plan to lower gas prices is to

Important article from @kathyprojo.bsky.social on the massive tax break Revity Energy wants to bring a data center to Smithfield. I think it would be insane to give a tax break for a lucrative project that would drive up our electricity rates even further. www.providencejournal.com/story/news/p...
I’m not sure. They didn’t give us much more info than several hundred acres in Smithfield.
AI data center projects are already getting cancelled or downsized all over the country. Big deals between major players falling through. These facilities pollute and use an enormous amount of water and electricity - while providing no public benefit. No corporate handouts for AI!
So to be clear: when I say I have serious concerns, I mean I’m opposed to it. I’m not going to say that and then vote for the tax break. I want to kill this abusive tax break bill. That’s why I want people aware that a data center is under serious consideration in our state.
As I said at the hearing, one reason I oppose this tax break is that I don’t think we should locate a data center in our state. I also think it’s an abusive tax break for rich corporations.

Nothing good comes from data centers. The few jobs it makes while they're being built do not make up for everyone paying so much more for power bills.
Why would AI data centers even need a tax exemption? They are run by some of the richest billionaires!
