I had to punch you because my friend was about to punch you and you might have punched back and hit me by accident.

American political scholars don't even have models for this shit. This corruption is so brazen and transparently transactional for self-enrichment, it's not been seen in US politics in 100 years. At this scale, it's never been seen.
Nasra Ahmed, 23, was walking through the parking lot of her aunt’s St. Paul apartment complex when she found herself surrounded by 12 agents. Ahmed, born in the USA, says she showed them her I.D. She was forcefully detained and jailed anyway for more than 2 days. www.twincities.com/2026/01/18/s...
The details are horrific.
“He was just lifeless, like he had foam around his mouth... He had tears coming out of his eyes. I was giving him mouth-to-mouth, and I remember stopping, and I said, ‘I will give you all my breath ‘til you get yours back.’”
lol
Any social media post by an elected Democrat that doesn’t say what they are going to do is just proving @joshsternberg.com right.
Donald Trump cannot be trusted to lead America into war. He is unaccountable to America. He is lawless. He only seeks conflict to cover up for his failures. Congress must step up and reassert its power. No more forever wars.
Translation: We found more pliable officials we can work with who won't ask too many questions about Venezuelan sovereignty
A deluge of work on regime change after the 2003 invasion of Iraq yielded strong (and rare) agreement in IR: it doesn't work & has terrible consequences. @profdownes.bsky.social's book Catastrophic Success lays it out, but it's right there in the title. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...
Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.
We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."

White words on a black background read: 50+ Immigration agents have the authority to detain whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino. ~130 Agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers. ~20 Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer.
Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.
I did it because the government isn’t.
This is what I found.
She’s not wrong
The upcoming PSJ 53(3) will feature a special issue on policy design, and it marks a real milestone for the journal. Special issue editors, Dr. Saba Siddiki (Syracuse), Tomás Olivier (Syracuse), and Cali Curley (Miami), put in an incredible amount

A couple years ago, I was approached by some scientists at The Nature Conservancy with a proposal: Would I help them create a better global restoration opportunity map? The resulting paper is now out, and I will explain my view of it in this thread. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Be warned: Trump will likely use his war with Iran as a pretext to further suppress dissent at home.
We must resist his efforts to stifle freedom of speech, make warrantless searches and arrests of Americans, and put more military onto our streets.
Thanks to everyone who participated! This was such a great workshop, with lots of engaging conversations and the developing of a promising research agenda. I look forward to working on better understanding and theorizing about the policy process in Latin America!
One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects.
It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this.
The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.

Our DOGE tracker is updated with a whole slew of new names, and now you can filter by agency to see which of the DOGErs have been where. Great work by @williamturton.bsky.social, @chrisbing.bsky.social, @kirstenberg.bsky.social and others!

Thread on attacks on democracy and the ways to counter it - collective action by civil society, mass mobilization and political leaders taking risks. Everyone plays a part.
"All we say to America is, 'Be true to what you said on paper.'"
These words — spoken by MLK Jr. shortly before he was killed on this day in 1968 — ring just as true now.
Let's honor his legacy by continuing the fight for social and economic justice.
This feels like the defining image from this year’s Midwest Political Science Association annual meeting.
The National Science Foundatipn paid for a booth in the exhibit hall. But the booth sits empty, because NSF has been DOGE’d, and there is no one left to send.
Take that, penguins of Heard and McDonald islands!
It's here.

Elon Musk is gutting vital services, lining his pockets with more government contracts, and strong-arming the state of Delaware to reinstate his $56 billion Tesla pay package despite nearly every Cybertruck being recalled this week. It’s taking "robber baron" to a new level.
